I believe born again believers are looking for a way out of sin, not a way into sin. However, the reality is we all do sin. When we do, we can use it to please God and for our good. (Rom 8:28)
So now you are a believer who claims it is all about Jesus. You tell others they can be saved by grace through faith and it has nothing to do with them (Eph 2:8-9). You read John 3:16 and Rom 10:9 to them. You show them the multitude of truth verses that state they can be made righteous (right with God) solely by trusting in the finished work of Jesus. You point out that in the entire Bible the only way any person was ever declared righteous by God, is by faith - HERE.
"For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV).
…This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD. Isaiah 54:17 ESV
Then comes the day you mess up and fall into sin. You’re downcast, self-condemning, depressed and doubt your salvation. You’re self-occupied and sin conscious as though you earned your righteousness before God. At that very personal moment, your faith is being tested.
It is easy to believe we are right with God when we are doing the right thing. It takes little faith to tell others they are saved by grace through faith alone. But at a personal moment of failure, it takes real authentic faith to adhere to and confess the absolute truth. The truth that we are just as righteous as we were before we fell into that sin, because our righteousness is not our own, it is a gift from God.
We have a choice when we fail, display no faith in God’s word by being self-occupied and sin-conscious or display great faith by being Christ-occupied and righteousness conscious. If you really believe salvation is a gift from God as the Bible clearly teaches, you can please God, stop satan cold in his accusations and make your failure work for the good. In the midst of each and every moment of failure, repeatedly and boldly declare this great truth out loud.
“I am the Righteousness of God in Christ!”
The enemy will try and keep you self and sin-conscious to stop you. He may call you a hypocrite but you can tell him that Jesus never called a believer a hypocrite HERE. Consistently, repeatedly and boldly speaking this truth when you fail will transform your life as you “walk by the Spirit, you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.” Gal 5:16 ESV HERE
by the one man’s obedience (Jesus) the many will be made righteous. Rom 5:19b
and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith Phil 3:9 ESV
And without faith it is impossible to please God… Heb 11:6 ESV
Can We Lose Our Salvation For Not Confessing Our Sin 1 John 1:9
