Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. (1 Cor 15:34 KJV)
This verse is often interpreted as a call to obey the law to be righteous before God. The big problem with that interpretation is the Bible only teaches one way to be righteous before God, by faith. Earned righteousness is not even a remote possibility in the Old or New Testament. Read
yet we know that a person is NOT justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. Gal 2:16 ESV
The Greek word used for justified in the above verse is the same word in the New Testament that is used for righteous, they are used interchangeably. (http://biblehub.com/greek/1344.htm)
That understood, I submit to you that 1 Cor 15:34 is stating that once we awaken to the absolute fact that we are forgiven much, that WE ARE RIGHTEOUS IN CHRIST by faith, the fruit of “no sin” will become visible in our life. Read a supporting article to this truth HERE.
Dear Lord, Even though I do not always feel like it or see it in the mirror when I look. I believe and will never again doubt your word that I am right with you (righteous) by faith in Christ alone. I have eternal righteousness thanks to Jesus.
