The author is against all sin. I agree totally with Paul.
What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Romans 6:15 ESV
For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? Heb 10:2 ESV
Hebrews 10:2 tells us that if the Old Covenant sacrifice of animals could make those who offered them perfect, they would no longer have any consciousness of sins.
In Hebrews 10:14 it tells us: For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. Heb 10:14 NASB
Therefore, since Jesus sacrifice perfected those who believe for all time, a Christian should no longer be guilt ridden, focused on sin and their failings, having a consciousness of sins.
While some believe the Holy Spirit convicts believers of sin. This is not true. In John 16:7-11 Jesus talking to the disciples/believers tells us that the Holy Spirit convicts unbelievers of the sin of unbelief. In John 16:10 Jesus told the disciples the Holy Spirit convicts a believer of the truth, Jesus sacrifice did work and in Christ we are fully righteous, right with God. Without exception the only way any person in the Bible was declared righteous with God was by faith - READ HERE. While we may claim we agree, a continued consciousness of our sins is proof that we are not one hundred percent convinced that Jesus sacrifice worked. Can you see how this would grieve the Holy Spirit?
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Cor 5:21
The Holy Spirit’s goal is for us to believe God. If Adam would have simply believed God, he would not have gotten mankind into the mess we are in now. Our Father wants us to know that He loves us greatly and we are totally forgiven. He wants us to be absolutely free from guilt, fear and condemnation that the enemies lies bring. For this to happen we must agree with God, we are righteous in Christ. This is why Matthew 6:33 tells us to seek first His righteousness. God wants us to replace our consciousness of sins with the consciousness of our complete forgiveness, of our righteousness in Christ. The Bible promises that this focus will transform (2 Cor 3:18) us from the inside out, apart from our efforts, to love much (Luke 7:47), deny sin and lead godly lives (Titus 2:11-12).
What Makes Us Conscious of Our Sins?
The law was given for the express purpose of making an UNBELIEVER conscious of their sins and sin nature: Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. Rom 7:7
Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God's sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. Rom 3:20 NIV
It was designed to protect and lead a person to the safety of Christ where the guardianship of the law ends.
Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. Gal 3: 23-24
The law (including 10 commandments and all moral laws 2 Cor 3:7-9) are not made for those who have placed their faith in Jesus, the righteous in Christ.
realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person... 1 Tim 1:9a.
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— Rom 3:21
Our Father wants us to know the truth that we are no longer under the law period.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. Rom 10:4
For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. Rom 6:14
The only one who wants us to continue to believe we are under the law is satan. If he can do this, our incorrect belief will allow sin to have dominion over us in our minds. The law is the only thing that gave sin the power of condemnation leading to guilt and fear and death.
the power of sin is the law. 1 Cor 15:56
Sin will continue to have dominion in the life of a believer until they by faith take God at His word and fully lean on Jesus. There is only one place that sin lies dead, one place where sin has no dominion, one place where there is no longer any consciousness of sins.
For apart from the law, sin lies dead. Rom 7:8b
Dear Father, I thank you for the law as it made me conscious of my sin as an unbeliever. The law served its purpose and led me to Jesus so I could be saved by Jesus, freed from condemnation. I now by faith let go of my grasp of the law and trust Jesus fully for everything. I believe I am righteous in Christ apart from the law. Jesus is my righteousness. I commit to replacing my consciousness of sins with a consciousness of your forgiveness and my righteousness in Christ. I believe your word when it tells me this is how I can be transformed into His image. Thanks you for loving me with such a great love. Amen
