Leadership
A lesson from John the Baptist to all church Leaders
In the passage below John 3 vs 28-30 we can see a lesson here for everyone that holds a position of authority in the Body of Christ. John when told that several of his followers were losing their loyalty to him and were now following Jesus, Said:
“You yourself can testify that I said, I am not Christ, but am sent ahead of him.
The bride belongs to the bridegroom .The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. He must become greater and; I must become less”.
John was unperturbed that people were leaving him and following Jesus. He knew His jurisdiction in ministry .He knew that, he like every other servant of God is only sent to prepare the way for the Bridegroom. He knew he was not the bridegroom, he knew he was just a friend of the bridegroom he knew he didn’t have what it takes to satisfy the bride. He knew he could never have the necessary intimacy to satisfy the bride. He can never assuage the yearnings and aspirations of the bride, no matter his charisma. He knew the Bride could never belong to him but to her bridegroom.
He was satisfied to be the friend of the bridegroom. In fact instead of being enraptured with the beauty and adornments of the bride he was busy waiting and listening for the coming of the bridegroom. And at the coming of the bridegroom he was happy and felt complete thereby declaring,” He must increase and become greater and I must decrease and become less”.
Every minister must catch this revelation. Today many are Raping the bride of Christ In fact they are so enraptured by her beauty wealth and adornment, that they have stopped waiting and listening to hear the voice of the bridegroom.
There are thousands if not millions in the body of Christ that have been in church for years yet they know their Spiritual leader more than they know Christ. Some have never even had an encounter with the bridegroom and nobody has ever pointed them to him rather such leaders they have met in church have usurped Christ’s position.
Other ministers become so enraged when the time comes for them to decrease in certain lives so that Christ can increase.
They fight, persecute and term those having individual dealings with their bridegroom as rebels.
The Lord revealed to me once that he has called us as ministers to Love, guide instruct and lead his people to Christ as a forerunner. It is a progressive journey, and it takes stages and depends on yielded ness of each life to Christ.
At a point in time when Christ is formed in a person when we can hear the voice of the bridegroom Speaking through that life, when that life becomes a son of God because he is being led by the Holy Spirit, At this point the minister must start to decrease for Christ to increase.
It doesn’t necessarily mean this is the time to leave a mentor but it does mean that, the loyalty to Christ has superseded any other loyalty including loyalty to the mentor. There is now a greater power in control that dictates the direction of ones life. Obedience to Him must be Total even at times at the expense of the obedience to the mentor as the bridegroom will never allow you to serve and worship any body else ,it has to be Him. He alone payed the ultimate price and gave himself as a ransome for you. He will never allow for competition.
Any leader and mentor seeing this and hearing the voice of the groom, must of necessity tell the troublemakers who go reporting {saying” they are leaving you and going to Him”} that I must decrease and He increase. Your joy must be complete as you hear the voice of the groom in that life. You must be satisfied that you have successfully brought another Bride for Christ.
When you have this mind you will not build your kingdom at the expense of Gods kingdom and you will not build your church at the expense of “The Church” of Christ. The kingdom of God and His will, then takes pre-eminence over your ambitions desires and personal interests.
You will release Christ’s bride into His hands and as 1st John 2 vs27 says you will allow the anointing they have received to teach them. You will be satisfied with guidance and advise.
You will not wound and destroy His body you will not interfere between the dealings of Christ with His bride you will be satisfied to stay in your position as a friend of the groom.
Today I pray we will stop robbing Christ of His role, and that we will learn to give him a free room as the bridegroom.
