Encouragement
Psalm 46:10-11(Amplified) Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our Refuge (our High Tower and stronghold). Selah (pause and calmly think of that)!
I found an old devotional I had written sometime ago and I began to reflect on how good God has been to me and my family expecially when I became overwhelmed with life's unexpected turns and couldn't see my way clearly. My first response was always to say a prayer but immediately jump into action and try to troubleshoot and see if I could come up with an answer to either fix the problem or detour around it. Occasionally, God would allow me to be successful but not all the time for if I continued in my self-sufficiency I would quickly start leaving God out of the picture and relying on myself. God does allow problems to come our way that will cause us to rely and trust upon Him which in turns increases our faith in Him. I think back to the time when my husband lost his job and was unable to draw unemployment and I also was not working. We had two small children with only four weeks of severence pay left and no insurance and unemployment high. My work called me back one week later! What can I say?! God provided! This is one of many instances where there was nothing I could do but completely rely on God! Looking back at every trial that came my way I noted that when I became still as Psalm 47:10 says to do God stepped in. The word Still in the Hebrew (raphah pronounced raw-faw) means to cease, to leave alone, let alone and it also means consume. When I would completely let go of the problem and trusted God, He then provided exactly what I needed, when I needed it. I just had to be still and trust. When we are still before Him it is easier to hear His voice through the roar of the storm's of life. When we let go, we begin to understand, recognize and know God because our focus is off the problem and on Him. I have found when I am still before God I become consumed with Him and all of life's cares doesn't matter because as in Psalm 47:11 paraphrased "He is exalted, He is with me, He is my refuge (Stronghold and Strong Tower) Selah (pause and calmly think of that)! So when you are starting to feel overwhelmed with life meditate on Psalm 47:10-11 and "Be Still".
