A Corpse
Back in Rome they would torture/kill people by tying a corpse to a living body(person) – the living person would , as can be imagined, have to have the mental anguish of a dead body tied to themselves, it would have to feel the liquid death oozing out of the broken and breaking skin and tissues. You would feel and almost taste each and every part of the decaying process. During this process the “living” body (person) the physical has a chemical reaction to the death/dying and decaying process of the body that has been tied to them. Once this “liquid death” comes in contact with the person who is yet living it literally starts to eat away at the flesh (living tissue) and the decaying process begins and as it starts gnawing away at live flesh – the internal living parts of the live body begin to feel pain and trauma, yet they can do nothing about it since they are tied to the corpse……I could take this further but I am sure you can grossly imagine the sickening idea and putrid existence that this would offer.
Why have I said this you may ask?
Are you tied to a corpse – Are you tied to death?
When we come to Christ we are to become new creatures in Him – II Corinthians 5:17
Wesley says: A true believer in him. There is a new creation - Only the power that makes a world can make a Christian. And when he is so created, the old things are passed away - Of their own accord, even as snow in spring. Behold - The present, visible, undeniable change! All things are become new - He has new life, new senses, new faculties, new affections, new appetites, new ideas and conceptions. His whole tenor of action and conversation is new, and he lives, as it were, in a new world. God, men, the whole creation, heaven, earth, and all therein, appear in a new light, and stand related to him in a new manner, since he was created anew in Christ Jesus.
When you are a new creature or creation in Christ you change and in fact must change else you have religion and not a relationship! It must be Jesus and His way and death of self – any other way is to commit Spiritual Adultery (Romans 7) and is as I have written above
Try to tie your shoes with no hands! SERIOUSLY! Try to tie them with one hand! Is that easier… OK
Now try to tie them with both hands – quick and simple right…
The Holy Spirit is supposed to be our guide and we are to walk in the Spirit and be regenerated on a daily basis.
Just like tying shoes, brushing teeth, eating, cooking, driving and a plethora of other items and situations I could mention…. We need and are created by God to use other parts of the body. Whether it be physical, marital, spiritual, parenting, work related or etc., I Corinthians 12:20 – for it to work right it needs to work together.
Have you ever heard?
1) HUH! You did this or that -
2) HUH! I will change when you do
3) HUH! No one likes what I like
4) HUH! If you don’t like my habits and activities you are wrong
5) HUH! If you don’t eat right ….
6) HUH! If you don’t ………fill in the blank
NO – this is not a first grade skit I am writing, it is how many adults act in the face of differences and that can cause either sin or allow holiness to prevail.
People add many items to this list and in guilt avoidance they try to place it on others to place blame and etc., there is no “if you do, I will” or anything of the kind!
All that is self-righteousness and selfishness no better than a petulant child stamping its foot at the correction of a parent- or teacher or authority figure and be sure, if you have trouble with authority you will have trouble truly serving Jesus Christ and submitting as He desires. II Corinthians 5:10 tells you how you WILL stand and how YOU will be ALONE one day to answer for whatever it is… - little Johnny can’t be blamed this time and simple Susan will not be in your place – YOU WILL ANSWER TO CHRIST!
Self-righteousness and lack of submission and adapting to overcome are many tasks that a Christian must face. It is definitely easier for some than others and that is why I used the hand and shoe tying and the body as a whole example earlier. If I get angry and act petulant I can cause those around me to become the same way and even when they normally would not – or have not in months or years – It will just happen…. And anyone else can do this and it is the fault of the person with the bad attitude if the other person responds accordingly.
You are walking around with a corpse tied to you and act as if removing it would cause some emotional tornado – and all the while it is killing you slowly anyway –
You cannot go through life expecting others to be what you are or what you wish them to be – you can be an individual with likes and dislikes but trying to push on others what you think should be is selfish and especially so if you are not willing to try their methods too –
HOWEVER – all of it can be worked out and it can work together for the good of others -
Take a hammer and hit your hand – shut your finger in a door – start talking down to someone –
The first and initial action is to open your mouth and let out what the internal is experiencing….and internal anguish comes in many forms and exits the same way –
So as a ‘whole’ body we should be careful as to what we subject the other parts to - - right! - -
You cannot go through life expecting others to be what you are or what you wish them to be – yet we can function in a Biblical manner and physically and it will all work fine – I have broken many bones but the rest of my body never stopped working and I never got so mad that I cut off my leg, ankle, fingers or nose…..because one day they would be healed and again work as they should….
YET… while they were “down” they were treated with care and concern in a loving and mild manner….else they would have become deformed or stopped working all together…..So should we each be treated, just as the Holy Spirit wishes and teaches –
If He (the Holy Spirit) neglected His duties as you do the commands of Christ…. There never would have been a drawing force and power (the Holy Spirit) to bring you to Christ!
For the drawing of the Spirit and the Sacrifice of Christ – how dare you, try to repay with such insults and error.
Take an inventory of your life – ask yourself how you can treat others better and as well how you too can change by being like Christ and not like self…..it is a hard look but it must be taken and then all must be given to Christ!
The Holy Spirit can and is offended at the smallest of things we do not notice, as well as those that we do notice. At the time of the offence, He cannot stay where we are, and dwell within us as He desires to and as we need.
Take for example:
A Christian watches a soap opera, which we all know to be sinful and wrong – at the time of the soap opera airing over TV, the moment that minds starts to become attached to that program, or even turn it on... The Holy Spirit cannot stay within you as He definitely is offended.
Careful little ears what you hear, careful little eyes what you see, careful little mouth what you say!
There are so many things that we as humans do on a daily basis and in our feeble minds, we have said “it’s OK”, however, the Holy Spirit has not said that and He is offended at each event. Beware, offending the Holy Spirit, Beware thinking that you’re OK
Do a checkup, from your neck up, with your head up!
