The fall season has arrived. Leaves are changing their colors and falling down. The sun has set out his downward journey, leaving the northern hemisphere to a colder temperature. The season celebrates some festivals that remind that one day everyone has to fall and reach the ground!
The feasts of “All Souls Day” and “All Saints day” are celebrated in the fall season. They remind humanity how all human beings have gone back to the mud. The leaves that fall on the ground are covered by snow and add fertility to the roots of the plants that stand on the ground. The people who have gone back to the ground add strength to those who are left on this earth.
Fall and mud
The season of fall makes me think of the beautiful Tamil word for mud and ground of the earth. The Tamil word “mann” refers to “human”, “mud” and “earth”. These connections among languages about man, mud and earth inspires my thought, reminding me the words from the Book of Genesis, “By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” (Genesis 3:19)
Fall is not a waste
Every fall is to prepare life for the eternal life of Resurrection. It is a "fall" to “rise up”. It is to strengthen in hibernation and come out one day in all glory. It is the preparation for the “soul’s winter” so that it may “resurrect” in a glorious “spring of “Easter”!
Fall reminds everyone man’s creation from the earth or mud, his feeding from the earth, and his return to the earth so that he would rise up in all glory.
