In this clear segment of the book, there are also 12 stanzas.
This conjunction can also be translated "and." This needs no comment--see my commentary on Revelation 4.
I SAW IN THE RIGHT HAND
This refers to the scroll--the Old Testament--figuratively being in the right hand of the Father and taken by the Son into Israel in her second millennium.
OF THE ONE WHO WAS SEATED
This refers to Jesus being seated on the throne of His Father in the fifth millennium.
ON THE THRONE
This refers to the Father and the Son reigning on the throne in Jerusalem at the end of the sixth millennium.
A SCROLL WRITTEN INSIDE
In Israel's first millennium, the third millennium, the Old Testament was completed right through the writings of King David.
AND ON THE BACK, SEALED WITH SEVEN SEALS. AND I SAW A POWERFUL ANGEL PROCLAIMING IN A LOUD VOICE, "WHO IS WORTHY TO OPEN THE SCROLL AND BREAK ITS SEALS?" BUT NO ONE IN HEAVEN OR ON EARTH OR UNDER THE EARTH WAS ABLE TO OPEN THE SCROLL OR LOOK INTO IT. SO I BEGAN TO WEEP BITTERLY BECAUSE NO ONE WAS FOUND WORTHY TO OPEN THE SCROLL OR TO LOOK INTO IT. THEN ONE OF THE ELDERS SAID TO ME, "STOP WEEPING! LOOK, THE LION OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH, THE ROOT OF DAVID, HAS WON THE VICTORY SO THAT HE CAN OPEN THE SCROLL AND ITS SEVEN SEALS." AND I SAW STANDING THERE,
In Israel's second millennium, the fourth millennium, the Old Testament was completed with the book of Malachi. Many of its mysteries were sealed. Since heaven is a figure for Israel, an angel as a heavenly creature, like a bird, is a figure for a Jew. I believe that this powerful angel is none other than Jesus Himself Who was a Jew and to Whom the Old Testament often refers as the angel of the Lord. He asks who is worthy to unseal the mysteries of the Old Testament and then the answer comes back in verse 9 that Jesus is worthy. One of the elders, the 12 apostles, tells John that Jesus is the worthy One.
BETWEEN THE THRONE AND
Between can also be translated "in the midst or middle of." This refers to the fifth millennium in the middle of Jesus' throne being established at the end of the fourth millennium and the resurrection and rapture just before the end of the sixth millennium.
THE FOUR LIVING CREATURES
The four living creatures again refer to all redeemed true Israel--Jews and Gentiles grafted into the Jewish tree--resurrected and raptured 7 years before the end of the sixth millennium.
This needs no comment.
AMONG THE ELDERS, A LAMB THAT APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN KILLED,
This of course refers to Jesus, the Lamb of God, standing among the elders, the 12 apostles as a figure for the saved at that time, apparently having been killed but now standing after His resurrection.
HAVING SEVEN HORNS AND SEVEN EYES, WHICH ARE THE SEVEN SPIRITS OF GOD SENT OUT
This of course refers to the seven churches of chapters 2 and 3, representative of the whole true Church of the fifth millennium, filled with the Holy Spirit and sent out.
INTO ALL THE EARTH.
Earth is another figure for Israel and the Jews--see my commentary on Revelation 4. At the end of the sixth millennium true Christians will be sent to Israel and the Jews to bring the gospel to them. Some will be saved and true Christians from around the world will flock to Jerusalem.
This needs no comment.
HE WENT AND TOOK THE SCROLL FROM THE RIGHT HAND
Jesus takes the Old Testament scroll from the right hand of the Father to open it to Israel at the end of the fourth millennium.
OF THE ONE WHO WAS SEATED
This again refers to Jesus sitting on His Father's throne in the fifth millennium.
ON THE THRONE.
This again refers to Jesus sitting on His Fahter's throne in Jerusalem at the very end of the sixth millennium.
This needs no comment.
WHEN HE HAD TAKEN THE SCROLL,
This pictures Jesus figuratively taking the Old Testament scroll from the Father's right hand at the end of the fourth millennium.
This article covers the fifth millennium.
FOUR LIVING CREATURES AND THE TWENTY-FOUR
The four living creatures refer to all redeemed true Israel up until the resurrection and rapture 7 years before the end of the sixth millennium. The 24 elders essentially do as well and even include the saved from the first two millennia before Abraham.
Again, this refers to the 12 heads of the 12 tribes of Israel, as representative of all God's elect from Israel's first millennium.
FELL DOWN BEFORE THE LAMB,
This pictures the elders, the 12 apostles, representative of God's elect at the end of Israel's second millennium, falling down before Jesus the Lamb of God.
EACH HOLDING A HARP AND
A harp as an earthly musical instrument is, I believe, a figure for saved Jews that the apostles win in the fifth millennium, who are music to God's ears. Of course it can include Gentile believers, who could be considered true Jews.
GOLDEN BOWLS FULL OF INCENSE, WHICH ARE THE PRAYERS OF THE SAINTS.
As another earthly figure, I believe that the golden bowls are saved Jews of the sixth millennium, most of which appear just before and during the last 7-year tribulation period. Again, they may include Gentile believers. Just before the Second Coming, they will be prayerful believers. Perhaps the golden bowls and incense also appear because there will be temple worship again in Jerusalem at the very end of the sixth millennium.
No comment is needed.
THEY SANG A NEW SONG, SAYING, "WORTHY ARE YOU TO TAKE THE SCROLL AND TO OPEN ITS SEALS, FOR YOU WERE SLAIN, AND BY YOUR BLOOD YOU RANSOMED PEOPLE FOR GOD
Believers at the end of the fourth millennium recognized Christ as worthy to reveal the mysteries of the Old Testament because of the ransom that He paid.
FROM EVERY TRIBE, LANGUAGE, PEOPLE,
This refers to the especially Gentile harvest of God's elect from Israel's third millennium. Perhaps this explains the triad of terms.
I believe that this fourth term refers to the nation of Israel and Jews. At least a remnant of Jews will be saved at the very end of Israel's fourth millennium.
This requires no comment.
YOU HAVE MADE THEM A KINGDOM
Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection established His kingship and kingdom.
AND PRIESTS TO OUR GOD,
In the fifth millennium, Christians were priests in their worship and intercession between God and unbelievers.
AND THEY WILL REIGN ON THE EARTH."
Remember that earth is one of the figures for Israel and Jews. This speaks of saved Jews becoming part of Christ's kingdom at the end of the sixth millennium.
This conjunctin can also be translated "and." Again, it refers to Israel's first millennium.
I LOOKED, AND
This refers to the apostle John's experience with Jesus at the end of Israel's second millennium.
I HEARD THE VOICE
This refers to John hearing Jesus' voice on the island of Patmos at the beginning of Israel's third millennium.
OF MANY ANGELS SURROUNDING THE THRONE
Remember that heaven is one of the figures for Israel and, thus, heavenly creatures, such as angels and birds are figures for Jews. I believe therefore that this refers to the Jews that will come to Christ at the end of Israel's fourth millennium.
No comment is required.
THE LIVING CREATURES AND THE ELDERS; AND THEIR NUMBER WAS
This refers to the believers and apostles at the end of the fourth millennium.
TEN THOUSAND TIMES
The word "times" does not appear in the Greek text. It is literally "the myriad," which meant ten thousand. I suspect that this means that only 10,000 Jews were saved in the fifth millennium.
TEN THOUSAND AND THOUSANDS OF THOUSANDS,
The translation here is "myriad and thousands thousands." I suspect that this means that another 10,000 Jews were saved in most of the sixth millennium, but then thousands and thousands at the very end of it.
Israel spoke with God in her first millennium.
WITH A LOUD VOICE, "WORTHY IS THE LAMB WHO WAS SLAIN, TO RECEIVE POWER AND WEALTH AND WISDOM AND MIGHT AND HONOR AND GLORY AND PRAISE!"
At the end of Israel's second millennium, the first saved Christians recognized the worthiness of Jesus through His sacrifice.
THEN I HEARD EVERY CREATURE IN HEAVEN AND ON EARTH AND UNDER THE EARTH AND IN THE SEA,
The word "creature" here is a different Greek word than the living creatures. It doesn't have the sense of life in it. Remember that both heaven and earth are figures for Israel and Jews. So I believe that this refers to unsaved Jews initially being in their land until 70 A.D., at which time many descended under the earth to hell, while others were dispersed in the Gentile sea. Interestingly, also in 70 A.D., exactly 40 years after the creation of redeemed true Israel, I believe that Satan and the demons were bound in hell, just as they will be again at the end of Israel's 40 centuries. I believe that they were released from hell Noah's prophetic 120 years before the resurrection and rapture or before the Second Coming, so in either 1903 or 1910. More will be written of this in commenting on other chapters. At the same time, in 1903 or 1910, the Jews were released in greater numbers to return to Palestine to build Israel for 120 years--note the multiple of 12.
AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM,
At the end of Israel's fourth millennium, all will bow the knee to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Again, Israel spoke to God in her first millennium.
"TO THE ONE SEATED ON THE THRONE AND TO THE LAMB BE PRAISE AND HONOR AND GLORY AND MIGHT FOR ALL TIME!"
Jesus received praise from God's elect at the end of Israel's second millennium.
This conjunction covers Israel's third millennium.
THE FOUR LIVING CREATURES SAID "AMEN!" AND THE ELDERS FELL DOWN AND WORSHIPPED.
After the resurrection and rapture 7 years before the end of Israel's fourth millennium, all of God's elect up until that time will be in heaven, worshipping God.
