Short Dramas and Plays
(As Mountain Climber 1 and Mountain Climber 2 enter onstage, a photo/video of a mountain appears on a screen behind them.)
Mountain Climber 1: Man, I've been waiting a long time to climb this mountain (Pointing to screen).
Mountain Climber 2: Me too, man. When I first heard about this huge mountain, I thought to myself, “Dude, I gotta climb it!”
Mountain Climber 1: I don’t know about you, but this is the biggest challenge I’ve ever faced!
Mountain Climber 2: Yeah, I hear ya. We’re gonna have to get pumped for this!
MC 1: Yeah!
MC 2: Get fired up for this!
MC 1: Yeah!!
MC 2: Show it who’s boss!
MC 1: YEAH!!!
MC 2: And do you know how we’re gonna do this?!
MC 1: Yeah!...I mean, no…
MC 2: Hmmm…neither do I.
MC 1: Well, perhaps we should try to focus ourselves mentally. Block out all thoughts except for just us…and the mountain.
MC 2: Umm, all right. It’s worth a shot (MC 1 and 2 close their eyes and start meditating, quietly chanting “Us and the mountain…Us and the mountain…”)
MC 1: (After a few rounds of chanting, eyes still closed) Are you feelin’ it yet? Are you one with the mountain?
MC 2: (Opening eyes) Umm…No, you?
MC 1: (Opening eyes) I got nothin’. What else?
MC 2: How ‘bout we sing an inspirational song to fire us up? You know, like “Eye of the Tiger,” or something.
MC 1: Okay, but we need a song that has to do with mountains too.
MC 2: That makes sense. Which song though?
MC 1: (Thinking) Okay…okay…how ‘bout… (Singing) “Go, tell it on the mountain/Over the hills and everywhere…!”
MC 2: No, no, no. That’s not going to work. What about… (Singing) “There ain’t no mountain high enough…”
MC 1: “There ain’t no valley low enough…”
MC 1 and 2: “There ain’t no river wide enough to keep me from getting to you, babe!”
MC 2: I’m not likin’ it…
MC 1: Me neither. So what’s next?
MC 2: Well…how ‘bout we pray?
MC 1: Pray?
MC 2: Yeah, I mean if anyone knows how to conquer this mountain, God would, right?
MC 1: A truly inspired notion. I like it.
MC 2: Then I’ll do the honors. (MC 1 and 2 bow their heads. As they pray, the picture/video of the mountain begins to zoom out, revealing that the massive “mountain” is really nothing more than a glorified dirt pile.) Heavenly Father, we have a big challenge in front of us, but You are bigger than anything we face…
MC 1: …Give us the courage to take on the mountain, the strength to endure, and the will to press on when things get rough.
MC 1 and 2: Amen.
MC 2: All right, I’m ready now.
MC 1: Me too. You fired up?
MC 2: Yeah! You ready for this?
MC 1: Yeah! Let’s do it! (MC 1 and 2 turn around and look at their “mountain.”)
MC 2: What is this?!
MC 1: That’s funny…it seemed a bit…bigger a few minutes ago, ya know?
MC 2: Yeah…doesn’t look so tough, eh?
MC 1: (Turns to leave) Let’s go! We’ve got a mountain to climb!
MC 2: (Following MC 1) Be care where you step…you might squash it! (Both exit, singing “There ain’t no mountain high enough…”)
