"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free"-John 8:31-32.
All of us have lied before, and felt tempted to keep lying in an effort to sustain the original lie. No matter how good you think you are at it, lying does nothing but tie you in a knot. Truth, on the other hand, liberates.
But who is qualified to define truth? Ask ten people what is the best new car you can buy for $30,000, and you can get as many as ten different answers. Or, one year you read about something that's good for you, and years later the so-called experts find out that what they thought was good can kill you. Truth, on the other hand, is not subjective neither is it affected by the latest scientific findings.
All-knowing and perfect, only God can define truth. All of His acts are founded on the same. Scientists have tried to disprove the fact that He created the universe, but the truth has stood the test of time and scrutiny. The sexual revolution and all the havoc it has wreaked on our society, AIDS and STDs being two of them, only serve to confirm the truth of God's moral laws.
We come to know truth through studying the Bible. Whatever misconceptions we have in life the Word of God will set the record straight for us. Our nation's increasing rejection of the truth and its determination to redefine truth has resulted in our living a lie. Now we find ourselves in this vicious cycle of having to embrace additional lies in an effort to sustain our first deviations from the truth. No matter how good some of our leaders might think they are at it, the lying will do nothing but place our nation in increasing bondage. There is no point at which their continued efforts in this direction will begin to pay off. Only the truth can set us free.
Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of truth You have given us in Your Word. Though we are a free people we are in terrible spiritual bondage. Open our eyes to see the truth. Amen.
