Religion and worship without God--along with its signs, symbols and posturing--is often the first snare to draw a person into Modern Street Gang activity. MSGs carry themselves as a religion. They believe in self-worship, praise music, their own version of the Sacraments, and their own ‘holy writ’ in the form of gang rituals and their constitution. It matters little if you are dealing with a Transnational DTO, or a hybrid gang down the street; modern gangs thrive on the illusion that they are ‘doing’ something ‘righteous’ for their own ‘holy quest’.
If you have read any of my blog notes over the course of time, you know that Modern Street Gangs are very much into self-worship and group idolatry. This is a satanic snare, one of the first ones in the deck of the current gang scene. It is VERY hard to break. The first mistake that many make about Satan (aka the devil) is that he hates religion. On the contrary. Satan (originally known as Lucifer) loves religion--as long as one does NOT have a sound relationship with God through His son, Jesus Christ.
Modern gangs ‘religiously’ track the same way. They ‘love’ to have songs written, sung, and played concerning their exploits. Many gangs here in the states have whole mixtapes and videos dedicated to their creation, history, and battles. Down south-of-the-border, we have the innovation of the Narco Troubadours, who sing the praises--often to packed stadiums and over the airwaves--of their favorite drug cartel. IF the singers/group members ‘offend’ their ‘worship object’, cartel members HAVE been known to order some of these balladeers murdered. Music is another satanic snare for gang recruitment.
It has been estimated that teens listen to an average of four hours of music per day. Music is the doorway to one’s soul. Gang members not only have to feed upon required music of the gang, they also have to able to recite the lyrics upon demand from senior gang members. For example: the genre of Heavy Metal music has three doorways to open the soul to suggestion: ‘speed’ metal (music that plays to the emotions), ‘thrash’ metal (music that is keyed to destructive behavior) and ‘death’ metal (music that incites or fuels death/murder). In the genre of Rap/Hip Hop (associated often with modern gangs) you have four doorways to open the soul: ‘porno’ rap (catering to sex/sexuality), ‘destructo’ rap (calling for someone/something to be damaged), ‘swagga/gangsta’ rap (air of self-worship) and ‘slap’ rap (catering to revenge/retribution). More to come in our next series installment.
