I’m sure it’s been a recent topic around your Guy’s Heavenly Water Cooler. You know, that mystical place where we all attempt to dance. On that line between Uplifting and Buzz Kill. Between what we understand God to mean as Sin versus Holiness.
If it is meaningful conversation, score one for the Angels.1 If not, well, the Devils went yard. I submit to you that, perchance, what we have been told is gossip could actually be men talking about life.
Here it is; Men shy away from public discourse on sensitive subjects.
Say we have this guy, mid-fifties, obsessive-compulsive product of the Jesus People movement, size Double X, diabetic, divorced, average white guy. For the sake of this story, we’ll call him, ME. Oh, and did I mention that I am an engineer, Star Wars and RUSH fan, so, if there is a bigger geek in the room where you are, pull the FIRE ALARM.
That sensitivity can take many forms. (Who You Gonna Call?) It can be in the form of a male-menopausal queasy stomach.
An irritation of the dermis, leading to creative ways to make inanimate objects mimic the behavior of a hand overdue for a manicure.
A sudden loss of the, normally, stable mind of the average AARP conservative Christian, who is as dogmatic as can be, without going whale watching. (Oops, wardrobe malfunction.)
Anyway, we will avoid the swamp-butt area of conflict like it where the drive-through of a vegan restaurant. (Homage to my daughter.)
We don’t want anyone else to know that we thought we could pray this one away. If we just had more faith. That it MUST be the result of unconfessed sin. While those issues could, in fact, exist in your cranium, I have but one thing to say…GROW UP.
