The Gospel is clearly defined in I Corinthians 15:1-4. "Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you-unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Chris died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures."
THE GOSPEL DISTORTED
The first chapter of Galatians says in verses 6-12, "I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another, but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what we have received, let him be accursed. For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ. But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I neither received if from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ."
There are many distortions or perversions of the gospel today: keeping the law, doing good works, telling people what they WANT to hear, wealth and prosperity, the tradition of men, saying one must be baptized, or worship on Saturday, or speak in tongues to be saved.
THE GOSPEL DEFENDED
Romans 1:16 says to not be ashamed of the Gospel.
I Corinthians 1:18 reminds us that the cross of Christ is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to those of us who are saved it is the power of God.
I Corinthians 15:14 and 17 tells us that without the gospel one's faith is useless and that we are still in our sins.
THE GOSPEL DARKENED
II Corinthians 4:3-4 have this to say. "But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose mind the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them."
Dear readers, don't believe any other gospel than what the Bible teaches. Jesus came into the world 2,000 years ago to die for you on a cross and to rise from the dead for your salvation. You can receive this by grace through faith. Anything other than that, or in addition to that, is NOT the gospel.
Sadly, today many people are attempting to create a god in their image. Like a spiritual buffet, a little of this faith, a little of that. And ultimately a god they can control and mold.. The real God will have none of it!
