There is something deeply satisfying and inspiring about serving a worthy master, especially one as righteous, good, and caring as the Lord. There is no greater master and in serving Him with ardent devotion we ourselves are lifted higher. There is also something profoundly comforting in knowing God as Lord and Master because it means that all things are in His hands and not really in ours at all.
Scripture says, "..and His servants shall serve Him. They will see His face and His name will be on their foreheads (symbolizing that they belong to Him)." - Revelation 22:3-4 And also, "Whoever serves Me must follow Me; and where I am, My servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves Me. (John 12:26)"
In light of these passages I've asked the Lord how I can serve Him because I want to be with Him more than anything. He said to me:
"You serve Me best by drawing near to Me. My plans will be accomplished in this world and I am glad to do My work through you but your first and most important act of service to Me is to be near Me and to abide in Me. Only then will you know Me and only then can you be ready to serve Me in other ways. Remember that My deepest desire is for the hearts of My people and that includes yours. So serve Me by following Me, by being near to Me and knowing Me better. Keep Me always first in your heart and then, whatever else you may or may not do, I will call you faithful."
My response to this? "Oh my Jesus! All I want is to be with You where You are, wherever that may be. All the pleasures and glories of heaven would mean nothing to me without You there with me. But as long as You're with me I could traverse the very pits of hell and not be afraid. From the depths of my heart and soul the cry rises up: Oh to know You more and be closer to Your side! My God, You're all I want!"
Hope this has blessed and/or challenged you.
