I Glimpse Eternity With You

If we could live our life all over again, I am sure we would only want to live the happier parts rather than the painful ones. It is human nature to desire so. We always wish that the sad moments had never taken place in the first instance. The true nature of a person lies not in what is portrayed to the world but what makes up the emotions buried deep underneath. When in the world, we have to live as per the norms of the world with all the duties to be fulfilled. We interact with society as demanded by social behavior. We go through the whirlwind of life with all its time limits, moments of happiness, frustrations and even annoyances at time with a flurry that is never at balance with what really lies in our hearts.

I came across a beautiful message from Oriah Mountain Dreamer in an excerpt from the book; ‘The Invitation’.; “It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing. It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive. It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.”

I was truly spellbound on reading this verse because it describes the very true, hidden and right essence of a person. We are what our hearts really throb for, what our soul longs for. This is what makes us completely human and normally this is the nature which we can have only deep within our being, the part which can never be shown in front of the world because somehow this busy and set by rules world would never understand. The best relationship that we can have is the one that we have with our own self, our own thoughts and our own longings because in such a relationship, we cannot deceive or cover up our intimate feelings. And, if such a relationship can click with another who feels the same way as we do, then it is an out of the world experience, where both share the same intense longing for each other, their senses are merged in a soulful awareness of the other with every heart beat, every drawn breath and every time tick. They glimpse heaven with each other in their hearts, minds and souls all together with a divine power from above.

At times, we yearn for so many dreamful moments which we wish could turn into realistic ones. Still, the very fact that we thought of a beautiful moment even in our senses makes it an almost alive moment in the journey of our life. We all know that soulmates are connected in a powerful way where this very connection makes them a part of the other person’s life sharing moments of both joy and pain that in the end they live a dual life, one with the world and the other with their soulmate. Undoubtedly, the latter part is the more desirable one because this is the part that their hearts beat for. These are the moments that make up the best part of their life.

It has been rightly said by Elizabeth Kubler Ross that ; “People are like stained glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light within.” Truly said!
Incidentally, I have always been fascinated by Stained glass windows specially in churches because somehow they remind me of a glimpse of heaven, mainly the ones which depict events from the life of Christ and his blessed Mother. It all looks so realistic that I can only stare in awe!
Just as the heart has its own secret longings, at the same time, we should also build up our hopes and aspirations for a glimpse of the ultimate glory in heaven and we should start yearning for this right here from the earth itself so that when the day does finally arrive, our anticipation of a mind blowing entry into the grandeur of heaven should be well rewarded when we behold eternity not just in the beauty of heaven but in the very eyes of our Savior on the throne.

St. Augustine in a beautiful prayer has surmised this; “I beg of You, my God, let me know You and love You so that I may be happy in You. And though I cannot do this fully in this life, yet let me improve from day to day till I may do so to the full. Let me know You more and more in this life, that I may know You perfectly in heaven. Let me know You more and more here, so that I may love you perfectly there, so that my joy may be great in itself here, and complete in heaven with You.
O Truthful God, let me receive the happiness of heaven which You promise so that my joy may be full.
In the meantime, let my mind think of it, let my tongue talk of it, let my heart long for it, let my mouth speak of it, let my soul hunger after it, let my flesh thirst after it, let my whole being desire it, until such time as I may enter through death into the joy of my Lord, there to continue forever, world without end. Amen.”

This prayer says it all! Truly, heaven begins here on earth itself and is completed in the arms of the Good Shepherd where he holds us; his precious lamb close to the beat of his heart. Until such moment, we can behold heaven in the Eucharist every earthly day where the shining radiance and splendor of the sacrificial lamb is evident in the bread of life that feeds our souls. We can thus say with all certainty that we glimpse eternity from this day onwards for endless days yet to come with the help of our soulmate, the Holy Spirit which is present with us right from the moment we were created and will never leave us for endless ages to come.
