Some time ago a few years after I had gotten saved we had a revival meeting in our little town. The meeting was at a Methodist Church where there was a lady pastor and her husband was the song leader. God poured out His Spirit on this little church. If you were to go to the restaurant in town you would find people sitting around talking about what the Lord was doing in the church. Even a Lutheran Pastor's son got saved which was not readily accepted by the Lutheran Pastor. A police officer was saved and led into the ministry. Many were healed, saved, and filled with the Holy Spirit. It was a glorious time as people were talking about what God was doing. We didn't hear talk of all the things the devil was doing. We didn't hear about all the perversion in the Church leaderships. We didn't hear about all the prosperity doctrines that were making rich the few. We heard about God. We experienced His power and love. We experienced the real gospel.
Somehow we have gotten side-tracked from the true gospel of Jesus Christ. He came to save the lost. He came to set at liberty those which were bound. He came to heal the broken hearted. He came to heal and deliver people from sin and bondage. Yet when we hear people talking about the church at large, we hear mostly negatives. This should not be so. Why would a hurting world want to frequent churches when nothing good is said about them or in fact there is no power of God and nothing that truly brings life is taking place?
Oh that we could get back to the real reasons that Jesus came. Oh that our churches were filled because of what God is doing there. Oh that the church would be the talk of the towns in a good way. Do you think that maybe as a church we have allowed our priorities to get off? Do you think maybe we need to quit focusing on self and get a hold of the power of God and allow him to have his way in the church? All of the programs are great to have but if they are not led and anointed by the Holy Ghost then what real good are they? We need God's power and presence in the Church. We need people to surrender their lives to the Lord (including the leadership) and allow the Holy Spirit free reign in the Church. The church can be talked about in a good way if we will allow the Holy Spirit to rule.
Oh that people could understand the true value of being in God's presence. You have no need when you are there. You don't need a million dollar home or a yacht or a fancy car or piles of money. You are complete in him alone. If you ever truly taste the freedom that God gives you will change forever. Priorities will be different. I don't believe that it is too late. God loves just as much as He always has. He will send His power when people surrender and ask Him to come. He wants to glorify himself.
God said that the law was to bring us to Christ. The law was meant for our protection. Now the law is becoming so immoral that it rarely protects people from themselves. Even if the law says something is legal does not change what is in man's heart. We need God's approval to have peace inside. God is the only one that can bring this. It will happen no other way because that is how he made mankind. Without Him in our heart filling the void that is in each of us, there will be no true peace. God gave man a free choice. He can choose to sin and go against what he knows is right but will ultimately pay the price as sin brings forth death. There is no true life outside of God and the Holy Spirit. There are many substitutes but no real life. Taste of the Lord and see that He is good, then you will understand what and why I say what I say.
