Fear Versus Faith ENCOURAGEMENT By Dot Hannah Nahum 1:7 The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knoweth them that trust in Him. KJV Romans 8:37 Nay in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. KJV Fear stood reluctantly on the plate. The giant umpire yelled, "Strike two." His opponent had the advantage because Fear could not be certain as to what kind of pitch was coming. Would it be a fast ball, a curve ball, a slider? All he knew was that one more strike, and it would all be over. Great drops of sweat ran down his face as he nervously anticipated what was ahead. The tension was sickening, and he thought he might collapse, that his heart might fail. What if? He desperately needed a steady hand and his years of dedicated training to pay off. The crowd was silently still, so much so, you could hear a pin drop. Both sides eagerly awaited the outcome. Then a small, still voice whispered to his weary mind and said, "Men ought always to pray and not to faint." Fear cried to God for help, and suddenly Faith courageously and aggressively stepped up and took the bat firmly in his grip. The God who had been sufficient until now had not changed. His Companion, his Coach, his Father stood beside him. He was on the winning team, and he knew it. He boldly hit the ball, and it powerfully soared out of the park. A healthy, courageous attitude makes a remarkable difference. It changes our batting average every time. "For with God nothing shall be impossible." Life is like a ballgame, but you only get one swing at it. You can be a loser or a winner. Play to win. You will not always hit a home run. You won't even always hit the ball. Disappointments and even times of fear will come. It's what you do next that can change the outcome. You must fight to keep a healthy attitude, and you must have the Word of God hidden in your heart. We are all needy players sustained each moment by the mercy of a sovereign God. Faith steps up and boldly takes the bat when self talk reminds you of who you are in Christ. You are a winner! When life throws you a fast ball, and you are crushed in despair and tormented by fear, be strong and courageous by remembering the promises in God's unfailing Word. God cannot lie. Impossibilities are made possible by God's almighty power and your faith in Him. You and God make a winning team, an invincible majority. Ask and believe for a home run. Be ready to run the bases, and pray for your opponent to fumble and drop the ball. If God is on your side, who could be against you? Don't prematurely call the game until it is over. One inning does not pronounce the winner. You have been equipped to win, but you must put on the whole armor. Yours is the victory, but it is a victory that must be claimed, must be believed, must be taken! Claim from God just as much as your trials have made necessary. Learn the beautiful art of trusting God to take care of you, and drive away every thought of defeat. Dwell deep with Him, and you will have faith in the most distressing moments of life, able to throw your opponent killer curve balls. Every emergency will push you into God's arms and into first place. Dreams will come true, and one day you will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
