You will notice that in this particular passage Jesus is praying to His Father God. Before I start on the message I want to point out one thing about this prayer. If you notice in this passage (verses 20-26) Jesus prays for us to know him more and to believe in him and to share the glory his father gave him. I just find it powerful knowing that Jesus is going to give his live for me 2 Chapters from now and he is praying for me, just shows me right of the bat that he and His Father loves me. Okay now onto the message.
When we think about the Love of God we often go to John 3:16, or maybe the resurrection of Lazarus even though there are a lot of passages we could read to understand how much He really does love us, but will we even be able to understand the love he has for us? Can we even imagine that much? The answer is no. But, I want to show you three simple points that I hope encourage you.
1. God's Love DWELLS Inside Us.
Dwell: To be at home, at ease, comforted.
Nothing can separate us from the love of God as you see in v.23 Jesus says "and hast loved them as thou hast loved me" now STOP... think about that for a minute. God, the creator of the universe loves me as much as his own Son Jesus Christ? Well if you believe the Bible is inspired and true (which i do) then yes he does. (Romans 8:39) says that nothing! I repeat nothing! Can separate us from the love of God and the fact that he loves us as much as he does his own son who sits next to him in Heaven is such an amazing truth and made me realize in my own life that no matter what happens today I have a God who loves me in Heaven and his son lives inside me.
2.God's Love DELIVERS us.
(2 Cor. 1:9-10) The love of God not only delivers us from sin but from the world we live in today. Paul was writing to the church in Corinth reminding them that God still loved them even with the problems going on in the church and in their personal lives. Just look at Jesus in the Garden. Did God not deliver Jesus from temptation? what did we just learn? God loves us as much as Jesus right? So if God can deliver Jesus from satan himself, do you think he can deliver us from a bad day, a divorce, a financial situation, a drinking problem, a drug problem, and etc. Amen, he can! I'm so thankful for God delivering me from problems everyday.
3.God doesn't DECIDE how much he loves us based on the condition of our heart.
(Acts 9:4-6) We all know the story of Paul right? Well before Paul was Paul he was a man named Saul, and he persecuted Christians, and killed many of them. He stoned Steven to death for preaching. After all of this you would think that he was a lost cause, well thats why we could never be God, because Jesus comes down and right there on the road to Damascus and showed Paul(Saul) just how much he loves him. He become the greatest evangelist we will ever know and wrote most of the new testiment we read every day.
I challenge you to think about these thoughts and realize just like I did that no matter what we are going through, no matter how much we have done and no matter what we think God is always there for you and he Loves you just as much as his own son.
