Praying and Renouncing Dishonesty
The Apostle Paul practiced a type of Prayer that can be defined as an OPEN SINCERE CONFESSION as he CONFESSED to GOD HIDDEN THINGS OF DISHONESTY. These are private thoughts, ideas, plans, motives, intentions and practices that must be evaluated based on Scripture and if it doesn’t line-up with the way we should sincerely apply ourselves as Christians—then we must RENOUNCE IT!
Paul wrote, therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. (v. 1)
Rather, we have RENOUNCED secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the Word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. (2 Corinthians 4:1-2 NIV)
Hi Faith-writers, I’m grateful to be back sharing more on the topic of Prayer. We are going to go deeper in the area of Prayer that Ministers and Seasoned or Mature believers should constantly be Praying to maintain our fellowship with Jesus –without the hidden agendas.
Renounce—in the Greek means to say off for one-self, disown;--Renounce.
When we grow spiritually knowing more Scripture we will encounter teachings like these found in this passage of Scripture that Paul practiced that we also must apply in our Christian walk with God. Paul did not write this so he would have something to say, NO! Paul learned many things as he shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ and one of the things that the Holy Spirit brought to his attention was the need to be sincere in all areas of his life--especially the inner thought life!
We are all Ministers! Although we may not become an Apostle, Prophet, Pastor, Bible Teacher, or Evangelist as some are called into these Ministries. Yet, we will find ourselves doing elements or small scale acts of these types of Ministers, because once we are sincerely Born-again there will be a passion ignited inside of us to want to share with everyone what we have experienced as we were saved. Then as we grow as Christians over the years we will begin to impact those around us who realized that we are different and we are living a better life because of the Spirit of God that motivating us to do so.
Although we may not know all there is to know about explaining the Christian life to someone—yet our lifestyle will reflex that we are Born-again Christians. And a great part of the spiritual growth that we must apply is the Prayer of Renouncing Hidden things of Dishonesty—secret and shameful things that we think about and may practice behind closed doors. However, Paul made it his business that if anything that is un-Christian like is troubling him he would bring it to God in Prayer and begin to Renounce the ill feelings and effects of what he was experiencing.
When we Renounce something we say it off of us, we disown it, we say we will have nothing to do with the thoughts, plans and ideas that come to mind that are not from God. The devil and his demons will always suggest things to us to act out in an ungodly manner. We must grow in our knowledge of Scripture so we may know what is God’s Will and what is not! The devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness and suggested that HE (Jesus) turned stone into bread. Jesus responded by quoting Scripture to combat the devils temptation 3 times (See Matthew 4:1-11 NKJV).
Believers must continue to Confess and Renounce Hidden things
There’s an interesting story found in the Book of Acts where God was doing special Miracles through Paul. Demons were being cast out of people just by the handkerchiefs that came off of Paul’s body. Now, some Jewish priest who thought they could do what Paul was Anointed by God to do—they called people who had evil spirits in them over and attempt to cast them out. Anyway, Luke went on to point out that the evil spirits jumped on those 7 priests and beat them up and ripped their clothes off. Everyone in the city was terrified at what happened that they repented (Believers Luke wrote) came and confessed their hidden things of dishonesty. Let’s read some Scripture about this story. (Acts 19:11-20 NAS)
And the evil spirit answered and said to them, “I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” (v. 15)
And the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaped on them and subdued all of them and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. (v. 16)
This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived in Ephesus; and fear fell upon them all and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. (v. 17)
Many also of those who had BELIEVED KEPT COMING, CONFESSING AND DISCLOSING THEIR PRACTICES. (v. 18)
And many of those who practiced magic brought their books together and began burning them in the sight of everyone; and they counted up the price of them and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. (v. 19) (Acts 19:15-19 NAS)
We cannot mix Christianity with cults or occults. We cannot play around with Magic, Black magic, white magic, Santeria, witchcraft, fortunetelling, sorcery, tarot cards, Horoscopes, dark world stuff, and anything that we are told in Scripture not to practice. In the Old and New Testament we have so many Biblical instructions warning us to not practice these ungodly things. Too many verses to quote.
When I was a baby Christian I thought Horoscopes were ok, then when I read Genesis chapter 1, God opened my eyes about the TURE purpose of the stars—it was design for telling times and seasons on the earth, not to lead or dictate our personal lives. For example, the 4 Blood Moons that NASA, Christians and Jews are talking about is only design to tell us about events that God plans to unleash something unusual. Yet, it still doesn’t dictate our personal lives. If we are well-informed in Scripture we will see that our daily Zodiac Sign only tell us what Scripture already practically outline for us to live out as Christians anyway. So why do we need to read Horoscopes?
For example, looking at my daily horoscope for today it says, I will meet new people, spiritual and metaphysical conversations could take place, the conversation could be deep I’m to ask more questions than share advice. LOL! You see how shallow and predictable Horoscopes are! It’s so fake and common place with our every day encounters as human beings.
Obviously, I meet new people every day in the park with my daughter. Yes, I’m a Minister so my aim is to Preach and teach the Gospel. I do ask questions more than share my Biblical advice. I share my biblical advice when I see they are truly interested on learning more about Scripture.
By the help of the Holy Spirit and my Biblical intelligence I can outline all of the horoscopes and put them side by side with Scriptural references that tell us that we are suppose to experience and or live by these principles or predictive lifestyles. Scripture the Holy Bible has so much to say to us on how we are to live our daily lives with the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We must catch a revelation of this fact and start to read Scripture and Renounce Horoscopes, Black, white, yellow, purple magic, ouji boards, omens, curses, hexes, witchcraft, crystal balls, tarot cards, palm readings and more…
Say, Father, in Jesus’ Mighty name I renounce all hidden secrets, shameful things that I’m practicing (name those things) and I break every demonic hold that came over me by the Precious Blood of Jesus.
The more we know the more we can Renounce, let’s do it every time we learn that it’s not from God, it’s not something a Christian is suppose to practice, Amen. May God bless you with wisdom to Renounce everything that is ungodly.
