Be Not Afraid

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1 KJV)

Mark Twain said, ďI am an old man and have known a great many troubles but most of them never happened.Ē Mr. Twainís humor is a reminder that most of what you worry about never happens.

Nothing can rob you of your peace of mind and sap your energy levels like worry. A by-product of fear, worry can take many forms including fear of failure, rejection, people, disaster, and death. Fear can strike when health issues arise or when a death occurs. Fear can come knocking when the bank account runs low, and the bills pile up. Some people worry about what people say or think about them. Fear can even trap you in believing that your circumstances are hopeless and will never change.

Even the bravest of souls fear something. David, a man of courage and strength, dealt with fear and prayed for help, strength, and protection from his enemies. He sought Godís presence through prayer, praise and thanksgiving and found refuge and freedom from fear.

Living in a troubled world, you may have to deal with fear, but you donít have to live in fear. If fear strikes, do as David did, and seek Godís presence where there is peace. The Bible says that Godís love drives out fear. (1 John 4:18) If fearful thoughts flood your mind, cast them down and make the choice to trust Jesus. Freedom from fear requires a way of life thatís centered on Christ. He said not to worry about tomorrow, for each day has enough trouble of its own. (Matthew 6:34) Cast your fears and worries on Him, for He cares for you. (1Peter 5:7) Jesus is your one constant in life who promises never to leave you nor forsake you. Trust Him, for He is trustworthy.
