We Are Like a Hot Air Balloon
By: Rick L. King
May 24, 2014
This article is especially for those which have accepted the Lord Jesus as their Savior, afterward they become as a hot air balloon. This is true also of a person that does not know the Lord but it just has a different outcome and application. This article however is focused more on the ones that do know Jesus.
Picture if you will a hot air balloon tied up sitting on the ground. The balloon at this point goes nowhere. It has chains or ropes that secure it to the ground. When we get saved Jesus cuts the ropes or chains so that we the balloon can rise and go where ever the wind of the Holy Spirit chooses to take us. The wind of course is in reference to the Holy Spirit. The Word says:
Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Jesus came to set you free. He brings liberty to the captives. This means he sets your spirit free. Without Jesus your spirit man is bound. Your head is running your life. Most don't realize this but they are a spiritual being that lives in a body. You have a spirit soul (mind) and a body.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Without Jesus we are really dead to our spiritual nature. The problem is that we do not find life in the flesh. Oh we find a substitute of the devil as we feed our flesh constantly with all the fleshly desires that the lie of the devil tells us that is life. God says that this is not life.
John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
Romans 8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
When we are living in and by our flesh not only do we not have real life but we also are not pleasing God. For those of you that really truthfully desire to please God and walk by His Spirit then this article will possibly give you some new insight. At least I hope so.
Getting back to the balloon, when Jesus saves us he cuts the chains that keep us bound to the earth. His Holy Spirit comes in and causes our spirit man to become alive. We become aware of our spirit man's existence as we sense things and hear things that we never experienced before. We are now free to follow Him. The problem we then face is we were so free when we were saved but for some reason this just does not always seem to last. The freedom that we experienced seems to have just left and we wonder why that this is. Scripture tells us:
Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
The key is the weights. Weights are designed to weight us down. Picture the hot air balloon so loaded down with weights that it cannot rise. Even if it does rise somewhat it takes an enormous amount of wind to blow it around. In the spiritual, these weights will kill us. These weights can be many things. They can be bitterness, judging another, being critical, unforgiveness, resentment, self-will, disobedience, sin, wrong thoughts that we have called truth, and basically anything that is in opposition to the truth in God's Word. Every time we allow something in that the Lord would not choose it becomes a weight to our spirit man. The more the weight the more earthbound we are. Each weight will cause a blockage within us that puts a wall between our spirit and God's and we find that we are not free to follow Him or we find it difficult to still hear his voice. The weights will kill us spiritually. Even though whatever weight that we take on seems right, unless it is of the Lord, it will kill us. The odd thing is that we can be like the hot air balloon tied to the ground but still be full of hot air. The problem is the hot air is worthless unless it blows where the Holy Spirit says.
Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Our challenge then becomes determining what is of God that we should allow and carry and what isn't. We must learn the difference if we want to be free and stay that way. This is a daily process that requires us to always draw near to God. It causes us to want to be in His presence as we learn that this is where our true freedom lies. When we are truly free we are like the hot air balloon that soars like and eagle and is able to go anywhere the wind of the Holy Spirit blows with no restrictions.
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Jesus is the truth. When we really know Jesus we are in truth. When we read His Word we read truth. We must become intimate with Jesus through the Holy Spirit and fill our minds and actions with truth. Anything other than this will cause us to get weighted down and limit or take away our true freedom in Jesus.
In preaching this word I was able to have a balloon and showed the visual effect of what weights do to it. Next time you have an opportunity to take on a weight or sin, take time to count the cost. Yes it is easier to allow things than to make a stand and resist or fight them off, but the cost is great otherwise. The devil will always try to come in and weight you down in some way, but if you do what the Word says the devil will flee. The devil knows that if he can weight you down then you will become ineffective for the Kingdom. Many try to take on the devil in their own strength and fight but you cannot beat the devil on his terms. The best way to win is to just realize that is only the devil and he was defeated by Jesus. He has no power until we give it to him. So do as the Word says, draw near to God (this is where your power to stand and resist only comes from) just resist him, ignore him, and he will eventually flee once he realizes that you mean business.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
I pray as a result of this article that many will be able to soar and be free to allow the wind of the Holy Spirit to take them where ever He would want to take them. This alone is true life in Jesus.
