Live In The Now
Live In The Now
Stephen A. Peterson
And now, Lord, is what I wait for.
Psalms 39:7 (NIV)
An Oklahoma farmer lay severely injured in a local hospital. Since early January he struggled between life and death, much of the time in a coma as a result of a fall on an icy patch as he fed his cattle. One morning he regained consciousness. While the floor nurse was making her rounds, she was surprised by his alertness and seemingly quick physical recovery following weeks of no activity. She was equally surprised by his first question.
“Nurse, what time is it and day?”
She replied: “Sir, it is the middle of April. When I came in to work today, it was in the 60’s and it is expected in the 70’s this afternoon. So spring has sprung!”
“Springtime, you say,” said the farmer. “I can’t stay in this hospital and die. It’s time to get my wheat planted right now without delay!”
For everyone, now is the time to plant or sow. The only time to which we are joined to is now. What was cannot help one. Whether we accept it or not every person is joined to the now/present. The past you cannot change. The future you cannot influence or know. …And so may tomorrow be yours when it becomes today/now/the present!
Prayer: Lord, let me remember the past, live in the present (now) and prepare for the future
should the future be Your will. These things I pray. Amen.
