Recently Bill Maher, political commentator, media host, and comedian(?), made the following statement that can be heard and seen in a video posted on U-tube on March 15, 2014, which has been viewed by over 430,000 people. The title of the video is "Bill Maher Trashes the Bible Noah Story and Psychotic Mass Murderer God."
Here is what he said:"It's about a psychotic mass murderer who gets away with it, and his name is God. Because 60 percent of adult Americans believe the story of Noah is true, this is a stupid country." He also said it was a made up story, says God has an anger problem, and called God names, all of the time using very derogatory, profane, and vulgar language.
First of all, the movie "Noah" is not at all like the Genesis account. I have been told it was produced by an atheist. Second, people bring judgment upon themselves for refusing to seek God's ways. Humans have used their individual free will to turn away from God, and therefore, suffer the consequences. That is what is talked about in Genesis 6:5-6 and 11-13.
He also said that God was mad at himself for messing things up, but in very profane and disrespectful language. God wasn't mad at himself. He was sorry that mankind had used his free will in the wrong way. A man and woman were put in a perfect environment at the beginning of creation and had free reign, except for only one thing that God said they could not do. Guess what, they did that one exception, which was rebellion and disobedience toward God, and we have been paying for it ever since. Free will and disobedience messed things up! None of this was God's fault.
He actually thought it was funny to call 60 percent of adult Americans stupid just because they believe in the story of Noah? Now, that does not make him look very good does it? HE OWES THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND ALL CHRISTIANS AN APOLOGY FOR SPEAKING THIS WAY, BLASPHEMING OUR GOD, AND SPEAKING SO DISRESPECTFULLY TO ALL OF US. How about it, Mr. Maher?
Has he ever examined, with an open mind, the evidence for the inspiration of the Bible? There is plenty of it. There are people who have been atheists, that after examining the evidence, have become Christians. There are secular scientists who give credibility to a worldwide flood. Is he going to toss of all this aside as stupidity?
Where is HIS source of belief? He needs to come forward with a source that supports his beliefs to the contrary that is equal to or greater than the Bible. Otherwise, it is nothing more than opinion. Oh, by the way, I am not going to call HIM stupid just because I do not agree with HIS views. He wants to use his position in the media to knock Christians and God. I didn't think he believed in God?
I, for one, am not looking the other way as if nothing has happened. Mr. Maher is perfectly entitled to express his views, but why can he not learn to do it with respect toward Christians' beliefs, without profanity, vulgarity, and blaspheming God?
