Rolled Away! (Mark 16:1-4)

“Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome brought spices that they might come and anoint Him. Very early in the morning, on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they said among themselves. “Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us? But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away – for it was very large.”

These lovers of Jesus arose early and went to His tomb with spices for His body. Spices were used in Bible days to reduce the bad odors of a decomposing body. We know (from John 19:39-40) that the body of Jesus had already been wrapped with strips of linen and about a hundred pounds of spices before it was placed in the tomb, but these ladies wanted to do more for Jesus!.

As they went to serve the Body of Christ, the main concern the ladies had was that they would not be able to move the stone from the entrance of the tomb. The entrance to the tomb could have been about 4-5 feet high, and about 2-3 feet wide. Scholars say that the stone could have weighed about a ton, and the Gospel writer Mark says that it was “very large”. There was no way these ladies could have shifted it by themselves so their concerns were valid. However, when they got to the tomb, they saw that the stone had already been rolled away!

Today the Holy Spirit wants you to know that He is rolling some stones away and out of your life. Maybe you have gifts and talents to bring to the Body of Christ but barriers may seem to be standing in your way. Perhaps God has placed a calling on your life, and an assignment in your spirit but you have felt hindered from moving forward. Friend, this is your season. God is moving the barriers out of your life. Financial, spiritual, emotional, and physical barriers are dismantling even as you read this and receive it. Infirmities that stopped you wholeheartedly serving God are being pushed out, in the mighty name of Jesus. Relationships that have brought you discouragement and condemnation are being removed, in Jesus’ name. God is reordering even your priorities and drawing you closer to His heart. He is connecting you to people who will help you with what He has called you to do. He is raising up intercession on your behalf, and releasing provision for your Kingdom need, hallelujah! He is turning things around, and opening a way for you where there seemed to be no way. You will begin to see that all the “stones” that seemed so huge are really very small when you see them through Abba’s eyes!

Friend, there is so much power being released into your life and no weapon formed against you shall prosper. The things that held you back are being removed from your life. These close friends of Jesus did not have to find a way into the tomb because God had already sent an angel to take care of it for them (Matthew 28:2). However, there are three things which we can see in this passage of Scripture.

1) One accord. These three ladies loved Jesus and they were all in agreement that they needed to take their spices and attend to His body. There is power in agreement and heaven backs unity (Matthew 18:19). One of us can put a thousand to flight, but two of us ten thousand!

2) They were taking their gifts to bless the Body of Christ. These ladies woke up early and stepped out in faith to serve. They knew there was a big stone that stood between them and the body of Christ, but they stepped out anyway. All they sincerely wanted was to give what they had to Jesus, and to be a blessing to His Body. Heaven took care of the rest, hallelujah, and Heaven will take care of things for you!

3) The doors that God opens can never be shut. The Pharisees arranged for the tomb to be sealed and guarded, but God opened it when He wished! God says to us from Revelations 3:8 “See I have set before you an open door and no one can shut it.” God has opportunities for you. He has an anointing and a calling which no one can take away.

Dear friend, you will begin to see God’s Words for you fulfilled as you step forward to bless His Body, and you walk in agreement with the ones He has called you to serve. The enemy may have tried to stop you thus far but God is on your side, and the doors that He has opened for you, no one can shut! You may have been feeling as though the night was very dark, but the sun/Son has risen! The grave could not hold Him down, and nothing can keep you down either. So set your eyes on Him and let the Holy Spirit guide you into the fullness of your destiny. The stones are being rolled away, in Jesus’ name, amen!
