Healing comes in many forms because of the many ways a person can be injured. If I was naked, people wouldn't be able to to see all of the physical wounds I suffered throughout my life because I was healed. But if they looked closely, they could probably see all of the scars that still remain, especially on an X ray. I have had a 2nd to 3rd degree burns on my shoulder, cigarette burns on my leg, 4 broken noses, a fractured collar bone, a sprained ankle, 2 concussions, 3 fractured ribs, a fractured jaw on one side, a dog bite in my leg, herniated discs and slight knife wounds here and there, along with countless scrapes and bruises. But sometimes even scars become smaller and disappear because of this wonderful concept called Healing.
What does it mean to be mentally, emotionally and spiritually injured and how does that healing work?? These type of injuries go much deeper than the physical body, which makes healing, a more difficult process. You can't put a band aide on a broken heart and there's not enough aspirins in the world to take away the pain of emotional bruises. People who have become mentally, emotionally and spiritually injured tend to try to find a way to heal by treating those wounds with a physical ointment of some sort and the problem with this, is that, physical remedies can only heal physical injuries. So, most people end up turning to an addiction, to try to make them forget those injuries when physical remedies fail to work.
People who have turned to the use of drugs, alcohol and other forms of addiction have learned to cope with mental, emotional and spiritual injuries in a way that prevents their wounds from healing at all. It doesn't even get a chance to turn into a scar. When serious physical injuries become left untreated, it gets infected and infection can worsen and spread to the point of destroying the entire physical body, even if it began as a small wound. If mental, emotional and spiritual injury goes deeper than the flesh, just imagine what it is doing to a person when those type of injuries also become left untreated. Toxic wounds are injuries that endangers a person's soul and physical injuries is the only type of affliction that does not endanger the heart.
I am able to count the physical scars I have, but I cannot count how many times I've been mentally, emotionally and spiritually injured because it is these type of wounds that are more common within a person than anything else. When children become hurt in these ways, they heal faster than adults because of how forgiving they are; and when they forgive, they often forget. But the older a person gets, the slower the healing process, and this is true for physical injuries as well. As a child grows older, they might continue to forgive but they will no longer forget and this is when they will know mental, emotional and spiritual wounds have begun to leave scars. All types of scars serve as a reminder of old injuries and throughout life, the more wounds people suffer, the slower the healing process becomes and might eventually, become nonexistent in some people.
Forgiveness is the only form of healing when it comes to toxic injuries; and when a person refuses to forgive, they are refusing to be healed. And if they refuse healing, their spirit becomes infected and begins to decay. No one can help those who refuse to be preserved. Preservation of the soul involves the medicinal use of the Holy Spirit, so that, if you can't find it within yourself to forgive someone, you can hand the anguish over to God, to at least begin healing until you are ready to forgive them. And even if that day never comes, your heart will still become preserved and you will be able to continue to love and live life without being burdened by mental, emotional and spiritual injury.
