For had they known it,
They wouldn't have crucified the Lord of glory
Ecstatic were they
When the lashes tore His back
Joyfully they shook hands with each other
As their plans were unfolding as they wanted
Enraptured they were when the nails
His hands and feet pierced
Crowned Him with thorns they did
and gambled with His garment
Spat on Him they did
Gleefully they mock Him
When the breath of life ebbed away from Him,
Triumphantly happy they watched
Entombed they left the giver of life
Wrapped up, sealed and left to decay
Guard the tomb they schemed
Lest stolen His body be they said
A wasted effort it was
A rewardless sleepless night
But how thrilling this truth,
How fascinating to the ear to hear
How exhilarating to know:
The abused, abased and abashed,
The beaten, battered and berated,
The cursed, crucified and entombed
Saviour didn't stay dead
It was death that died!
He defeated death and rose again
Indeed, it was death that died!
Death is dead. Hallelujah!
