Christians have rock-solid reasons for believing the way we do. Before I state what they are I need to let you know that I DO intend to put you on the defensive. You are not going to be let off the hook. You must, out of intellectual honesty, come forward with some source for YOUR beliefs, that is equal to or greater than our source.
Our source, as Christians, is the inspiration of the Bible. I know, you have heard that before, and you do not believe in the Bible. Well, then you have to present rock-solid reasons for why you don't. Examine the evidence for the Bible's inspiration. There is plenty of it, for those who have an open mind.
A question often asked is, "If the Bible is the inspired Word of God, why is there so much evil and injustice in it?" There really is a very simple answer to that question; here it is: The Bible is a historical account of the sinfulness of man down through history combined with the divine intervention of God and his Son, Jesus, to bring salvation to all who put their faith and trust in him. People who don't bring judgment upon themselves.
Christians believe in the literal, physical resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Again, there is plenty of evidence for this, for the person who has an open mind to explore it.
Another reason for our beliefs is the inward transformation of millions of lives all through history.
I could give you more reasons for our beliefs, but let us turn now to why people tune out God and religion. The number one reason that people use is the evil, injustice, poverty, war, and many other wrongs in the world. They ask how could a loving God permit all of this? This is not God's fault. Most of it is the result of the condition of the human heart and the free will of each individual tainted by a sinful nature. We never have to train our kids to do wrong, do we? They have a will to do wrong from the time they are born. That should tell you something about the heart condition of all people.
I also believe that many people have a faulty concept of the character of God. He is not some tyrant just waiting for you to mess up so that he can come down on you with some sort of judgment or discipline.
People often associate religion and Christianity as being one and the same. There are many who think of themselves as Christians when all they are doing is going to religious activities or following some set of rules or rituals. Churches are filled with a lot of non-Christians.
A final reason is that people do not want to be held accountable to a divine creator. Rather, they would rather live their lives any way they see fit.
Christians are far from perfect. We are people in need of God's grace and redemption. However, we have a peace, joy, stability, and hope that transcends the circumstances of life and the turmoil of world events. Perhaps we have not done a very good job of showing you atheists and other anti-Christians what real Christianity is, but look at all the things that Christianity has done in the world.
Christian individuals and organizations have built hospitals, started all kinds of non-profit ministries to help people in various ways, provide counseling, meet the needs of the poor and hungry, have orphanages, give seminars to restore broken marriages, have rescue missions in many major cities, centers for youth, recovery groups for alcohol, drug addictions, mental illness, and depression, and produce thousands of Christian books and videos to help people. The list could go on and on.
With all of what I have said, I have some questions for you.
Why do you put us down but have nothing better to offer in return?
Why do some of you feel you have to call us names just because you do not agree with us?
Why do pro-abortionists willfully deny medical facts to "support" their cause and yet at the same time say that we are wrong in being pro-life?
Why do so many of you just assume that Christianity doesn't work or isn't relevant, when at the same time you experience all kinds of problems in your lives and relationships, without bothering to pick up a Christian book or go to a Christian seminar, counseling, or recovery group, where you might just find the answers you are looking for?
Why does the homosexual community try to make us look like the "bad guys" when they themselves have their own version of the Bible called The New Queen James, which rewrites certain passages to make them conform to their beliefs? They want to put us down while they desire to have special privileges.
Why do some of you want us to bow to you when you can't prove that God doesn't exist any more than we can, and you use silly and flimsy arguments to try to build your case? Why do you want us to take down our crosses, quit praying in the name of Jesus, and do away with the Ten Commandments, while you at the same time continue to pray to your gods or put up YOUR symbols?
Why do some of you call us intolerant if we keep our standards high but hypocritical if we lower them? Either way you choose to see us in a negative light.
Why do some of you knock the Bible when you probably have never read it from cover to cover? Biblical literacy is at an all time low.
Why do some of you have the silly idea that no one will be offended by YOUR beliefs?
Why do some of you in positions of wealth, fame, and prominence feel you need to use your influence to blaspheme Jesus and laugh at Christians, when you do not do it to any other group?
Why are some judges ignorant of justice and overturn laws for the good of the people, and then turn right around and rule in favor of those who have filed law suits over stupid assertions to destroy religious expression, but only for Christians?
Why do some of you insist on teaching "separation of church and state" when that is NOT what the U.S. Constitution says?
Why are so many public school administrators and teachers ignorant of the law when it comes to students expressing their Christian views, or do not have the backbone to defend the student because they are afraid of being sued?
Why are some colleges intellectually objective and inclusive of all people and beliefs, except Christianity?
We, as Christians, seek to love people, but love does not mean condoning, and it does not mean that we have to lie down and let you kick us, either.
Consider coming over to our side and experience a PEACE that passes all understanding, a JOY in your heart that doesn't depend upon outward circumstances, a STABILITY and HOPE inspite of the current events or world situation, and DELIVERANCE from addictions and troubled relationships.
