The following note of encouragement was sent to one of my fellow church members. After prayer consideration, I decided to make the note public, in hopes of helping others.
Dear ___________ In Christ
I see that you have been struggling with some issues of the church. In particular, the work of God's Holy Spirit. I too am much concerned with this same issue. I trust and pray that these few remarks help you along your Christian way. Read them prayfully.
Today's church is missing the presents of the Holy Spirit. As believers, we all know that salvation begins with the convicting work of the Holy Spirit, by us excepting Christ finished work on the cross, which is available by God's free grace.(Ephesians 2:8-9) In addition, the work of the Holy Spirit includes the conviction of sinful deeds. (1Cor 6:19)
Not accepting God's Holy Spirit, is one of the major problems, within our lives, our churches, and our government. The Holy Spirit is being left out of the church, as well as our lives. Thus our nation, and we as well, are not being convicted of our corporate and individual sins.
God makes it perfectly clear that the Holy Spirit can be grieved.(Ephesians 4:30) Now our nation, our churches, as well as ourselves, are grieving. Just look around you at the unusual events occurring; strange weather patterns, major civil disobedience, lawlessness everywhere, complacently within our government, etc. You see, when we do not allow the Spirit to be seen in our actions, when we do what we know is wrong, we suppress or quench the Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19). We do not allow the Spirit to reveal Himself the way that He wants to, in our lives, our churches and our government. Thus, the church is failing.
As believers, we should hold that it is our privilege to be wholly sanctified, and that our complete spirit, soul and body may be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thess 5:23) The Holy Spirit enters our lives, the moment we believe.(Acts 2:38) However, it is the privilege of all believers to be "filled with the Spirit, which is a separate work of God's grace aside from being saved. (Acts 4:8, 31) Acts 9:17) Acts 11:16) Acts 19:2) (Acts 11:24-25)
We must allow the Holy Spirit, to bless us, within the church. Jesus promised His Apostles that the Holy Spirit would “teach you all things” (John 14:26) and “guide them into all truth” (John 16:13). He also said that the Holy Spirit “shall testify of me” (John 15:26)
So, why the absents of God's Holt Spirit in our churches today? When is the last time you heard someone in church pray that the Holy Spirit take control of the service ? See someone be filled with the Spirit, in quite praise worship ? Simply feel the working of the Spirit subtlety and quietly by "Praising the Lord". Allowing the "Amen's" and the "Hallelujah's" to be echoed, as the Spirit led. Lifting Holy hands intricacy in worship. Shedding a tear of joy. Or spontaneously uttering a prayer ? (Galatians 5:22)
