I was enmeshed in a system of sensual self-gratification in which everyone's stimulation was interdependent with a multitude of others' sensual experiences. There was the faint inner knowing that what was happening was wrong or prohibited but an unwillingness, even almost an inability to halt the illicit pleasure of the activity. The next thing I knew I was wandering in some kind of a maze over an ominous intricate kind of landscape mined with diverse hazards, only guessing as to which way or direction was better than another. I made a choice because I had to make one, moving away from ghoulish, subhuman white skeletal figures. Then I was aware of a closing off behind me so that I could not go back. I was sealed in a clear resin chamber like one sees preserving butterflies only I was still alive! Because the resin chamber was transparent I was totally exposed to the gaze and amusement of all the creatures outside the chamber. I gasped in a micro-moment of despair, the deepest I had ever felt because of its finality, I had been lured, deceived, and driven into a trap, but it wasn't the average trap, this one was forever! I remembered then the words of the speaker who had said repeatedly of the evil one, "His joy is to see people suffer." It didn't make much impact the first time he said it. But each time he repeated the words at strategic points in the message, it was driven home more deeply, until at the end it arrived "in the driveway" so to speak. Then I remembered the testimonies of the North Korean Christian prisoners and a drawing one had made of the cramped animal cages they occupy. It showed a man reaching outside his cage through the slats attempting to grab hold of a rat because, according to the testimonies, these prisoners depend on rats and snakes as food to help them survive! Of the some 50,000 to 70,000 Christian prisoners in North Korea, it isn't known for sure how many of them are subsisting in these sort of conditions. It is known for sure, however, that 80 of them were shot at one time by a firing squad recently for the "crime" of possessing their own Bibles. We are instructed in Scripture to rejoice in our sufferings because of what qualities they can produce in us, not because we enjoy pain for its own sake like masochists. But it is sobering to realize and remember that there is one so evil, and those who follow him, who enjoy the pain itself, especially if it's the pain of others they hate, which, as it happens, is most everyone.
