LESSONS FROM THE ANTS - 1
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her
food in the harvest. Proverbs 6:6-8;
There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise: The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer; The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks; The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands; The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces. Proverbs 30:24-28;
Nature is one important avenue through which God has revealed to humanity, His mind on several issues of life, and this is deliberate, because God would not want anybody to have occasion for excuse whatsoever in accessing divine instructions and escape judgment thereby. Although God’s word is the major medium through which God communicates His mind and positions on all issues and matters of life and eternity; notwithstanding, there are a number of vital lessons and divine instructions God passes through His creations, so that all men, irrespective of their background, location or status, may see and receive wisdom for living. To those who are sensitive enough to discern, the scriptures quoted above reveal that there are certain important lessons God wants men to learn from the ants, tiny creatures which can be considered inconsequential when compared to other animals and creations of God.
Talking about size, ants are very tiny and feeble in nature; they are so insignificant in size and body mass that it takes no efforts to kill dozens of them just with a step. But considering the exploits these tiny creatures can achieve, it becomes clear that achieving great things has absolutely nothing to do with one’s size!
Ants are extremely small in size, but this does not in any way constitute a barrier to what they can achieve! As tiny and fragile as ants are, they usually build gigantic anthills which can be as wide as 5feet in width and as high as 9feet in height! Under proper observations, it would be established that the anthills built by ants are not makeshift structures but solid edifices, which undeniably, are products of well thought-out plans, precise designs and calculated executions! Ants, as tiny as they are, are known to be achievers of great things, but it’s quite sad that men, who are created in the very image and likeness of God, are failing to achieve great things which God desires for them. For those who would be humble enough to learn, there are great lessons to learn from the ants!
LESSON 1- ANTS BITE IN BITS
The first vital lesson to learn from the ants is that they bite in bits. The gigantic anthills which are seen all around are not built of blocks and rocks, but from tiny fragments and pieces of sands carefully dragged over a distance by the ants, and properly arranged in a chosen location! The ants are not known to possess such strength as to carry concrete blocks, stones or chips of rock, but it is from several tiny fragments of sand which they have power to move, that they gather the materials with which they make their mansions. Even though they may have burning desire to quickly build themselves a place of abode, yet the ants never worry about the fact that they cannot move mighty blocks or stones, but diligently do that which is within their power.
One of the reasons majority are not making progress in life is because they are not willing to start a big task in a little way. There’s nothing wrong in you having a big dream which would normally require massive resources to actualize, but you must understand that everything great starts small! No matter how big the task before you is, doing a bit at a time is the best approach for execution. If you want to wait until the resources you need to execute the entire project are available before you set out, you will definitely have to wait for a very long time, and you’re not likely to make progress.
Another category of people who may find it difficult to make progress or achieve great things are those who would not want to do anything until they can do everything. These set of people will find it extremely hard to achieve in their lifetime, because they would spend a long time waiting for when the time would be ‘right’ to make a move. Truth is if you have not mastered little things, you cannot handle big things! No matter how big the task is, if you commit yourself to doing a bit at a time with the required dedication, you will certainly accomplish great things without noticing it.
One more important thing to note here is that ants are aware of their limitations, but inspite of these, they usually rise to achieve great things. Talking about strength, the ants do not possess, but their diligence to do that which is within their capacity, always makes up for their lack of strength. In one form or the other, you are bound to see certain limitations around your life, and these are potential threats to your achieving great things. However, you should never be deterred by the limitations, but with diligence, do those things you have control over and capacity for, and you would have achieved the great task inspite of your limitations.
