It is something we literally use every day when we enter or exit the house, the apartment, the Co-op, the store, the mall, the office building, the school or the vehicle. A Door is design to allow us to enter the area we desire to go into—it also allows us to exit that same area we have entered after we’ve completed our time or business there. A Door is also a portal that allows us entry into another dimension. In the Bible the word Door is used literally such as, ‘the Door to a house’; It is also used figuratively as the Door to eternal life if we go through it by believing in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior (John 10:9 NKJV).
Hi Faith-writers, I’m very grateful to be back to continue to teach about the topic of Prayer. Today, we will speak about “Praying for an Open Door”, which is very important to know and apply if desire to see results in our walk of faith on the earth in the Kingdom of God. The Apostle Paul taught us to offer our Prayers to God so He may Open the Door for the Word (the Gospel) so they may speak the mysteries of Christ to people who haven’t heard the Gospel (Colossians 4:3 NKJV).
However, there is more information and revelation that we need to see, hear and apply to experience all that Jesus, John, Paul, Luke and James wanted us to know about the Doors that are spoken about in Scripture.
Types of Doors in the Bible (Figuratively Speaking)
We also have other definitions that the Bible makes clear to us about the word “Door”;
* The Door of faith—that was the heavenly portal open for Gentile believers to be able to hear and receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 14:27 NKJV)
* The Door of Ministry—Paul acknowledged that God had a wide Door of opportunity for effectual service that has opened for him but there were many adversaries (1 Corinthians 16:9 AMP/ 2 Corinthians 2:12 AMP)
* Paul taught the Christians at Colosse to Pray for the Ministers that God would Open a Door for them to Minister (Colossians 4:3 NKJV)
* The Door of the Heart—the Human spirit; James taught that the Judge (Jesus Christ) is standing at the Door of our hearts waiting to see our emotional responses (James 5:9 NKJV)
* An Open Door (of opportunity)—Jesus spoke to the Apostle John on the island of Patmos and when Jesus spoke about the Church of Philadelphia, after Jesus commended them for their good works He said that He set before them an Open Door of opportunity. Jesus also declared that whatever Open Door HE Opened no one can shut that Door (Revelations 3:7-8 NKJV)
* The Locked Door of our Hearts—again Jesus is standing at the Door of our human spirits trying to gain entry to those believers that are Lukewarm in their walk of faith and HE is knocking so we may Open the Door of our hearts to serve zealously once again (Revelations 3:19-20 NKJV)
Why do we have to Pray for God to Open Doors Manuel? I’m glad you asked!
(Point #1)--Paul’s Example of Praying for Open Doors
Paul taught other Christians to help him in Prayer so God can Open a Door for the Word of God can continue to be Preached (See Colossians 4:2-3 NKJV)
Paul practiced what he taught because when we go back to the Book of Acts Chapters 13 and 14, which is the start and finish of Paul’s first Missionary Journey. We read how Luke pointed out that Paul and 4 other Prophets and Teachers were Fasting, Praying and Ministering to the Lord. The Holy Spirit spoke to them and said to separate Barnabas and Paul for a work that HE appointed them to do, so they Prayed further, and laid hands on them, and sent them on their first Missionary Journey. They went through several cities and revival broke out, as well as persecution. Paul was even stoned to death but he got up and continued ministering. Finally, as they were headed back to Antioch they Prayed and fasted and appointed leaders as the Holy Spirit lead them to oversee the Churches that were newly established and went back to share how God Opened the Door of Faith to the Gentiles (Acts 14:27 NKJV)
The entire point we must see here in this example is that Prayer initially was the Avenue, or the Portal that Opened the Heavenly Gate of Blessing for the Ministers to take the Gospel of Jesus Christ to a people who never heard that Jesus died for their sins and that they have Salvation available to them if they decide to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. This is the Divine Purpose of Praying for an Open Door of Faith.
(Point #2)—We are to recognize an Open Door
Jesus said, I know your works. See, I have set before you an Open Door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name (Revelation 3:8 NKJV)
Remember, Jesus was telling the Apostle John about the lifestyles of the 7 Churches in Revelations chapters 2 and 3, when Jesus continues to share about the things that are going on with all these Churches, Jesus said, good things about this Church in Philadelphia and that HE personally set before them an Open Door that no one can shut. Why?
1. Because they have a little strength
2. They kept His word
3. And did not denied His Holy Name (Rev. 3:8 NKJV)
These are the 3 key things we must seek to do in order for us to have an Open Door set before us, aside from Praying, Fasting and Ministering to the Lord as Paul and the 4 other Prophets and Teachers did in (Acts 13:1-4 NKJV)
The next thing the Holy Spirit showed me about this Scripture in Revelations 3:8, is that the Pastor of the Church at Philadelphia did not know nor did his congregation that Jesus set before them an Open Door that no man can shut. They may have Prayed for it, as Paul had taught in those area Churches. But they may not have received confirmation to move through that Open Door of Opportunity. Which leads us to question, are we doing all the right things but fail to see the Open Doors of Opportunity in our lives individually and corporately as a Church who has a passion to serve God but how and in what capacity?
My Testimony of a recent Open Door
I’ve been writing on this site for about 3 years now. And I would periodically, Pray, Lord what else do you want me to do? My Pastor would ask me to come to men’s meetings on Tuesday nights and share some things. It never worked out well with my schedule. So I was left to continue to teach online. The Pastor said one time what am I doing? I said teaching online. He asked me several more times but I don’t really know if he ever visited this site. So I had a few Dreams and it seemed clear to me that I would not be ministering in my current Church.
Anyway, I minister at work to the homeless and Veterans. I’m a porter again and have been for the same 3 years I’ve been writing on this site. I prayed about that—Lord, why do you have me here when I’m a Licensed Construction Manager? This job is way below my skill set and pay rate. God told me, when I was a porter from 2001-thru-2003, how many teaching did I help you write? I said 37 topics. Then God said, you’ve been teaching for 2 ½ years as a porter now how many teachings have I help you write? I said, 143 at that time. Then it dawned on me—I’m right where God wants me to be Teaching Online.
February 2014, makes 3 exact years I’ve been writing on faith-writers. I was ministering to this homeless guy one night, I kid-you-not this guy looks like the actor Leonardo Dicaprio when he’s cleaned up (that’s what I nicked named him). He likes it and so does everyone else who agrees that he does resemble him. So, I said I have a book from Joyce Meyers that I think you should read about her life and how she climbed out of her situation by the power of God. I did not see him the next day so I read half the book in the locker room. I was amazed at how God took Joyce through the Journey she went thru and Opened a lot of Doors for her in the Ministry.
I still haven’t seen Leo, one night in the middle of February 3:15 am (I work the graveyard shift), I’m cleaning the front of the Building and I find a Canon EOS 7D camera (a $1,700 dollar camera). I looked around and seen if anyone would claim it. I walked inside and seen that it worked. So I looked at the images and saw a lot of photos were taken I could not make out who these people were, I never saw them so I decided to keep it for myself. I found out all there is to know about this camera and bought accessories and a manual to learn to operate it. Then I found out that this is the same Camera that they use to shoot Saturday Night Live with it in their live shoot. So I Prayed and I said Lord, why did I find this Camera? He said so you can make video teachings and post it on YouTube for all to be blessed and taught. This is the next phase of your Ministry.
This story is how God sets and Open Door before us when we don’t even see it or recognize it. This is why we must Pray about an Open Door that God may have Opened. Yet, we failed to recognize it. I did not think about making teaching videos and posting them on Youtube. All I thought about was taking pictures in Central Park in NYC with my daughter. However, by the Summer I will be posting Youtube Videos with Powerful Teachings. I spoke to Deacon Brown at Christian Culture Center in Brooklyn and he connected me to a video tech guy who worked for HBO and he is training me in cinematography. God will provide the means when HE Opens the Door for you. Hallelujah!
(Point #3)—We are to recognize a Closed Door
Jesus said,…”He who has the key of David, He who Opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one Opens” (Revelations 3:7 NKJV)
I must teach you guys the truth and tell the truth. I did not want to remain a porter for 3 years. I was running multi-million dollar jobsites in Construction with Big name Construction Company’s like Conti, Versatile Specialties, and more… I was highly sought after and I had the company vehicle, gas card and the fat salary. Yet, God places me back into the porter position. Why God Why? Ha, Ha!!!
Some of you are laughing at me right now! And some of you are being holy and saying well at least you have a job MISTER! Be grateful!!! True, but I’m also real and I’m teaching and testifying about my emotional complexes and issues that any Man of God would encounter that has to be laid at the altar in Prayer. So I Prayed, Lord why am I working Cleaning toilets instead of working as a Construction Manager? The reason God placed me as a porter is to begin training me more in the Ministry HE has Opened the Door for me to Operate in and Closed the Door to the Construction World. If I would have been in Construction I would not have had the time to teach online.
When God closes the Door no one can open it. Do you know how many times I tried to leave my job? Every time I would go online to Craigslist, Monster.com or Career Builder the computer would lose connection Supernaturally. How do I know it was deliberately done Supernaturally? Because when I would punch in these Websites the computer would lose connection. But if I would go to Yahoo Autos or Amazon or any other site that was not Job seeking related I would have connection with no problem. This is how you can tell that God is ordering your steps and you better walk through the Open Door and not try to breakdown the Closed Door. So I’m staying put cleaning toilets and writing articles.
The great thing about being obedient is more Blessings toward the pathway that God has placed you in. If I did not remain faithful I would not have found the Camera and begin to make Youtube Videos so all the world will begin to see Videos and hear all these teachings first-hand for free. Jesus Opens and Closes Doors. We can fight, scream and shout but no matter what we must submit to the will of God. Trust me, it will save you a lot of stress if we do things God’s way.
So, Pray for an Open Door of Faith. Pray for God to Open the Door for other Ministers—to Minister. Pray for God to Open the Door for the Ministry HE wants to place you in personally. Pray so you can recognize the Open Door that God has already made available to you—but you don’t see it. And Pray and ask God to forgive you for trying to knock down the Door HE already closed.
In the next article, we will discuss the Open Door of the Heart in greater detail. May God Bless you and motivate you to Pray about the Open Doors in your life, in Jesus’ name amen.
