Hosea 4:6 says for my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. We live in a society where we are dumbed down with entertainment. Talent shows, fashion shows and drama TV has kept most Americans very busy. As soon as work is over, we rush to get home and watch our selection of recorded television programs. There is nothing wrong with watching TV. I like Seinfeld, big bang theory, sports etc. I agree that all work and no play is not good for the mind. The problem is that many of us are not putting anything of value in our minds. In addition, we seem to have become a nation addicted to entertainment, more excited about entertainment than being educated and saved.
Much of the education that children receive today is not knowledge that one can use in the real world. It is indoctrination of useless information created to control the minds of individuals.
It seems as if all people care about are their iphones, ipads and other devices. It has gotten to the point that we don’t even pay attention when crossing the streets. We have become a desensitized people who don’t care about the real issues of life. We love little but expect to be loved. We give little and expect a lot in return. I believe it is not good to go through life with any knowledge because decisions are being made without public approval, that will effect the life of every person on earth.
Too much entertainment reduces the attention span and ability to concentrate over time. I concur that too much education is also not a good thing. However, the right education is adequate.
We have to be careful of what we and society put into our heads. I say this because we usually portray in life what is often in our minds. One thing the world needs is thinking people, folks who think for themselves instead of always allowing others to do their thinking for them. Unhopefully, our school system is not doing a good enough job at educating students to think for themselves and arrive to their own conclusions about a particularly researched matter.
The public schools that I’m familiar with have parties on a regular basis. A party that is well organized and monitored in itself is not bad. I just believe that more emphasis should be given on getting the right kind of education so that individuals will be prepared for a real and changing world.
We need to learn the real history of our respective nation. This history will not be found in our school books or university. We need to read books that will uplift and inform the total man, starting with the Word of God. These books will have to be sought out in bookstores and online. I am not a scholar, at best I am moderately educated a believer of the truth.
In college, my professor had the class read a book called “lies my teacher told me”. That book was an eye opener that began my journey to search for the truth of who really controls our educational system. Sadly, I found that the school system is controlled by corporations who dictated what we should learn and omit what we should not learn.
In the 90’s a famous rapper made a song called “you must learn”. Perhaps a problem lies in the fact that quite a few of us don’t want to learn. The rap song was a history lesson that all people could appreciate. My prayer that the Lord will help make us wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
In conclusion, the right kind of education is the key to knowledge. Knowledge is the key that will strengthen and develop us in wisdom and favor with God and man. Amen.
