We were being briefed at the hospital on the upcoming surgeries. It was thorough-going and professional, with the use of the ever-present powerpoint. “Any questions?” “When my back was operated on 5 years ago," one family member piped up, "we never had this much preparation, why the difference?”
“We want you to be prepared, with no surprises. We want you to know exactly what will happen when, and just where you stand.”
“Wow. I see.” Another family member sounded off: “You all have it so together, you are so well organized and prepared, so confident, we don’t really even have to pray, do we?” At that came the muffled sound of someone snickering. (There’s a wise guy in every crowd, it seems.)
“Yes, prayer is always a good idea,” came the astute reply.
