“JESUS CHRIST IS THE SAME YESTERDAY, AND TODAY, AND FOREVER.”
THE PREEMINENCE OF JESUS
Colossians 1:15-20; John 1:1-5; Hebrews 1:1-3
There are many references to Jesus being superior to all created things on earth and in Heaven:
1. HE IS THE IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD. Other gods are made of wood,
metal, stones, concrete, and are man-made images. Jehovah (our God, the
spirit, the great I AM, always existing One) has a human image that is equal and part of Himself. He has come to us in the flesh. (John 1:1-2; Isaiah 44:6-7; 19b; Hebrews 1:3 ***”the exact representation of His being.”
2. HE IS THE RADIANCE OF GOD’S GLORY. (Hebrews 1: 3; II Corinthians
3. HE IS THE FIRSTBORN OF ALL CREATION. The firstborn of the family is
usually the heir who gets the choice parts of the estate, fortune, and benefits of a family. The position of Christ is being the heir of all creation. It belongs to Him. (Reference John 1:12 where believers are God’s children by the new birth… Jesus’ birth was superior even to the spiritual birth we experience.)
(Hebrews 1:1-2 where God makes Him heir of all things.)
4. HE IS THE CREATOR OF THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE AND ALL THINGS IN IT.
(Colossians 1:16; John 1:1-2; Hebrews 1:1-2)
5. EVERYTHING WAS CREATED FOR HIM. Not only was the universe created
by Him, but it was created for Him as well. (Colossians 1:16b; Romans 11:36; Hebrews 1:2)
6. HE IS SIMPLY BEFORE (ABOVE) ALL THINGS. (Colossians 1:17a) This
statement needs no further comment since God’s Holy Spirit has stated that Jesus is above and beyond everything. No wonder we fall before Him and worship his very presence and existence.
7. HE HOLDS EVERYTHING TOGETHER. Jesus keeps everything from falling
apart and flying away. (Colossians 1:17b ***KJV says “by Him all things
consist” Hebrews 1:3)
8. HE IS THE HEAD OF THE CHURCH.(Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 1:22;5:23)
9. HE IS THE BEGINNING AND THE END (ALPHA AND OMEGA). God spoke
to John about the eternal existence of Jesus by using the Greek alphabet first and last letters. The reference signifies that Jesus is the source of everything and the final authority and “finisher” of everything. Jesus Himself spoke to John in Revelation 1:8 & 1:17-18 and made the same claim that God the Father made when He told Moses He is the “Great I AM. He called himself the first and last, the alpha and Omega. They both are eternal, without beginning or end. That means that everything in time and eternity exists from their presence. Especially the Bible refers to Jesus being the life and the truth, and the illuminating light in the darkness of sin, (John 1:4-5) and “the author and finisher of our faith.” (Hebrews 12:1-2 KJV) The NIV uses the word perfecter instead of finisher. The picture is that of one who sands and “finishes” a wooden floor. When he finishes, it does not mean he completed it (though he does) but means he has polished and shined the finish to a high gloss and evenly applied protection on the floor. He is also pictured by John as the light shining in the darkness. He reveals sin and all that we are. Anything that contradicts Jesus Christ and His word is darkness.
EVERYTHING MUST BE COMPARED TO JESUS…IT WILL PALE IN
COMPARISON REGARDLESS OF WHAT IT IS. JESUS IS EVERYTHING.
IF YOU DO NOT ACCEPT HIM AS EVERYTHING IN YOUR PERSONAL
LIFE AND THINKING, YOU ARE MISSING THE FULL BLESSING OF
