Did Your Donkey Fall In Your Well Today?
Did your donkey fall in your well today?
Did you stop to pull it out?
Or were you on your way to church
And left it to thrash about?
Did you pray in church for your grandma dear,
To be warm and safe from falls;
That others would go to visit
By her bed within four walls?
As you drove back home in your nice warm car
Passed the poor man on the grate:
"O be thou warmed, my freezing friend,
By others to nurse your fate."
When neighbour was stuck in her driveway snow
Was it much too late for you,
To help her out, but nice warm thoughts
And a wave would see her through.
"Would you like to give a dollar or two?"
As you cashed out in the store.
"I pay my taxes, give to church,
The nerve that they ask for more!"
When the food-drive came and your money short
Was there something you must buy?
A pair of jeans, a dinner out
That needed a nice new tie.
"The government's surely the cause of this,
Let them serve the poor," we call.
Caesar taxed, yet the widow shared
From a heart that gave her all.
As the Bible meant in the letter short,
For all to be clothed and fed
Takes time, treasure, talents and work;
For "Faith without works is dead."(KJV)
