But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

As I sat watching a children’s cartoon on television it occurred to me that in all the years, since 1950, that cartoon had been showing the characters had not grown. They were still the same size and appeared to be the same age. I am not sure, but some may still be wearing the same clothes.

Some Christians are like that they accept the Lord as their Savior then go about their life as if nothing has happened. Oh, they may attend church and try to be a better person, but they are still as little children, regardless of their age. In other words, they do not grow in their Christian faith.

What does it mean to grow in Christian faith? Growing in Christian faith means to become a little more like Christ each and every day. How do you become more like Christ? First, to become more like Him, you have to know more about Him and what He expects of us. A good way to do this is to study the Bible and attend Sunday School and other classes at church. Then put that knowledge into practice. Knowing information does not do anyone any good if they don’t use the skills they have learned. Take the knowledge, you have learned about the Lord and what He expects and insert it into your daily lives. The more you learn and practice what you have learned the more Christ- like you become, thus growing as a Christian.

Prayer is also an important element to growing more Christ-like, it is an important communication tool between you and the Lord. Ask Him to provide you with wisdom and opportunities to develop the skills He desires you to learn. You are growing in size, grow also in grace and knowledge of the Lord.

Dear Lord, Please give us the wisdom to know what you desire of us so that we may grow to become more like You each and every day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
