Sunday 2/2/14 Rev. First Lady Twanna Greater Grace-the Power of Dancing With Your Scars II Corinthians 12:7-10
===============================================================
If we take a poll of our congregation, many of us have been through different types of troubles. You cannot judge a book by its cover. Many of us have mastered the art of masking our pain and scars. We will eventually learn to not mask and pretend anymore. We know that God can enable us to dance with our scars. In our text Paul is telling of a major event that left a mark on his life. Paul had gone to the best schools but until he met Jesus, he says he was nothing.
**Dancing With Your Scars means:
1) God gives Grace for your Pain:
The thorn in Paul’s flesh caused great pain and limited him. He couldn’t pump himself up or get puffed up. He couldn’t get too prideful or stick his nose up because God had sent him the thorn. Pride is the ultimate sin! Pride is what got Satan thrown out of Heaven. Pride is what got Adam and Eve thrown out of the Garden of Eden. God will allow the thorns of life to happen to us to keep us on our knees to Him. We don’t get prideful.
God gives Grace to us in the pain. When others have turned their backs on you, there is Grace in the midst of your pain! Paul’s thorn in the flesh was given to him to keep him from exalting himself. Paul relied on God instead. The thorn from Satan was pestering and annoying him. It could have been a pain in his body or an annoying person in his life. God gave Paul Grace in his pain. What God did for Paul, He will do for us! He will give us Grace in our pain! Those of us who are still praising God with a limp or a scar, stand up and praise the Lord. Thank the Lord for His Grace in our pain!
2) God gives us Grace to Endure:
We get strength from God to endure and keep on going on in bad circumstances. There are times when God says NO to our requests. We are walking through the valley because we know that God is with us. We get Grace to endure when we want God’s will and not our own. Trust that God REALLY knows what’s best! He promises that we will always have whatever we need to get to where He wants us to be. Grace will abound and we will be able to endure, to stand the trials of life. We will not be forsaken by God! Grace to Endure…..Endure means to persevere, have patience, hang in there, wait it out and to trust God. Endure! Paul’s thorn wasn’t a liability but an asset because it kept his eyes on Jesus! This is right where God wanted him to be!
3) God give us Grace to Come Through:
God will be and is sufficient for us! He will continually supply Grace to pull us through. Grace is God’s Favor to pull us through every difficult aspect of our life. We know that there are things in our life that we have gone through before that should have taken us out! Don’t believe that you made it through with your own strength. The devil is a liar! It was God that kept us alive and in our right mind! We need to say thank you Jesus! He kept me and you and protected me and you! We didn’t do anything ourselves. It’s God and Jesus! Joy will come in the morning! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
AMEN
