"One thing I ask from the LORD, this only do I seek that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD and to see him in his temple." Psalm 27:4
To be in God's presence is the single highest priority. Not prayer, intercession, writing, or any other form of service. Seeking God first is essential. After that He will guide us into any form of service or action.
Bible reading helps bring me into God's presence. Often I feel His presence after reading a few pages. To be in His presence is life itself. It is the best place to be, the safest and the surest. There is no one I would rather be with than with God.
Martha wanted Jesus to tell Mary to help her with her activities, but Jesus replied "Few things are needed-or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Luke 10:42. Mary was at Jesus's feet, the best place to be. Sometimes God does want us to be busy for him, and at other times just get into his presence and stay there. That's when everything else falls into place. Or maybe Jesus just wants to rest you for a while.
"Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere: I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked." Psalm 84:10. The best place to be is with God, waiting, spending time in His company, enjoying Him. There death can't touch me, I have no fear or worries. I'm in the fullness of life even it is only for seconds or minutes.
When I put God first, I know exactly what He wants me to do with the rest of my day. He gives me the order and it gives me complete peace. It is the most natural and right way for the day to pass.
