You know the feeling when your car won't start. Immediately you think of all the things you may have to do for that engine to turn over. I had that happen a few days ago. Not only would it not start, it was doing nothing at all. I thought that was very strange since there had been no problems the night before.
I started doing all of the things necessary. Fortunately it happened in my own yard so I drove another vehicle up along side it and got out the pair of jumper cables. Nothing happened. I cleaned off the battery posts just to make sure I was getting contact. Then I checked the purchase date on the battery. No, that was not it because it was only 2 years old, but you know there is always a chance that batteries go dead before their time. I got back into the car and tried starting it again, when I looked down and noticed that I had left the automatic gearshift in gear. Of course, automatics will not start unless they are in park. DUH!!
God gave me this spiritual analogy. The gearshift represents spiritual truth. Without truth people can flounder through life and really not go anywhere. Many times people, particularly the younger generation, have no basis of truth, so like the car that won't start or run without the gear being in park, so their lives will not "run" correctly.
The truth is the Word of God, the Bible. By following its teaching you can "start" living correctly, and have a life filled with meaning and purpose. Start by asking Jesus Christ to come into your life and heart. Then you will not only get started really living but you will be able to go down the road of life with a renewed sense of hope, which everyone so much needs today.
I had a good laugh at myself that day. Sadly enough though, many people are laughing at the truth. If I had refused to accept the truth of my gearshift not being in park I could have put myself through a lot of unnecessary troubles. The same is true with spiritual truth. Many people are refusing to accept it, and as a result are not experiencing a life of purpose, hope, and peace.
This might be kind of a silly analogy, but the message that is in it will bring you life everlasting. Click on the link below so you can hear the Gospel message and find out how you can get your life started with Jesus.
