'The Path We Chose'
Barack Hussein Obama, or ‘BO’ as some have nicknamed him, promised us change in 2008. Oh, his lies slid from that silver tongue smooth as butter and, to our disgrace, the American people bought it hook line and sinker. Of course, I must add that BO had plenty of practice (at lying that is) and he continues to lie to this day! But I’m not going to blame Obama for the shape that our country is in…No, I think that we all are responsible for the decline of America.
John Hancock, the 1st signer of the Declaration of Independence, said, “Resistance to tyranny becomes the Christian and social duty of each individual…Continue steadfast and, with a proper sense of your dependence on God, nobly defend those rights which heaven gave, and no man ought to take from us.”
It is our duty to defend our rights and our Constitution—yet our history proves that freedom came at a high cost. Multitudes of our young men and women have paid for freedom with a disabling injury or with their very lives!
'Freedom Comes at a High Cost'
We’ve been looking at the cost of freedom as it applies to our Constitution and Bill of Rights which have been sealed by the blood of our men and women---the freedom that BO is so fond of trampling on, writing over and just basically ignoring.
The Bill of Rights expressly states that we have freedom of religion; freedom of the press and speech; freedom to bear arms, etc.; however, we can feel the chains insidiously wrap around our lives as Big Brother bounds us with more and more rules! Big Brother can take our job, our property, our food, our livestock, our home or even our life and we can’t do much about it.
'Burdens Too Hard to Bear'
The price of food goes up just as the amount of government assistance in the form of food stamps goes down. People want to work but most of the jobs offered now are low paying jobs and a family can hardly get by on the money they bring home. Then you look at the news and you get filled up with the crime, war, and violence. Sometimes it seems like the burden is just too heavy to bear.
'The Ultimate Price Paid for Freedom'
There’s an answer to those burdens that have worn you down and the answer came to this world almost two thousand years ago.We were created by a holy and just Creator who gave man laws and rules to follow but man and woman fell way short of abiding by our Creator’s rules. We just didn’t make the grade. However, there is one characteristic of our Creator that gives us hope! God loves us more than any of us could ever comprehend.God talked to man thousands of years ago and tried to reveal His will to mankind but mankind would not listen. Man became more and more evil even though God attempted to communicate. Yet God had the ultimate plan in mind that would give us an ability to know ‘Him’ even though He was so vastly greater than mankind.God came to earth in the form of the man, Jesus Christ, in order to communicate to mankind and to purchase our freedom. Just as there are consequences when you break the law such as fines for stealing or even corporal punishment if one commits a murder; so, there is also a consequence to sin. And the penalty for sin is death.
Jesus loves us so much that He died on Calvary’s cross to pay the penalty for our sin. Jesus has already paid the debt you owe but you have to accept His free gift of pardon. You have to recognize that you have committed sin against God and realize that Jesus went through horrible agony because of you. Jesus said, “Come unto to me all of you that are heavy laden and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Folks, it looks like things are going to get worse but Jesus said, “I’ll never leave you, nor forsake you”. The government has surely let us down; friends will let you down and family may disappoint you, but Jesus Christ will never fail you. Jesus understands the temptations you go through, for He was tempted like us although He never sinned. Jesus understands the sorrow and pain that you feel because “He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
Jesus is a gentleman. He doesn’t knock you on the head or run you over with a freight train to get you to come to Him. Jesus knocks at your heart door as He offers peace to your troubled soul and healing for your broken heart.
There is a gospel group by the name ‘Point of Grace’ and I love the name they chose! I love the name because Jesus will meet you ‘where you are, just as you are’-- Jesus isn’t asking you to meet Him upon a holy mountain; He doesn’t expect you to tread the streets of Jerusalem and vainly attempt to become more like Him on your own. Jesus can reach down to where you are at any moment and change your life completely! Jesus said in John 16:33, “In the world you will have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world”. We are made overcomers through Jesus Christ!
Folks, we are living in some trying times and there are many obstacles and challenges that we all must face in the days ahead. Now is not the time to sit complacently in a corner and it is not the time to give in to despair and hopelessness! Join me in becoming the voice of freedom!
