Proverbs 5:1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
Once again God's servant is advised to attend to God's wisdom and understanding.
The Imporatant Of Spiritual Discretion.
Pro 5:2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
Let's examine God's Biblical definiton of "discretion":
In Psalm 112:5 discretion guides a good man to lend and shew favour to others.
In Proverbs 2:11 Discretion is needed to keep a person in Godly understanding.
In Proverbs 3:21 Discretion is associated with sound wisdom.
In Proverbs 11:22 Lack of Discretion causes a person to act ungodly or unclean. Although a person may have material preference God views them as swine (Revelation 17:1-17).
Proverbs 19:11 Discretion causes a person to think before acting in anger. They will think about the consequences of such action. They will think of such anger will affect others. Their ability to remain discreet (mature) will be a glory for them.
Isaiah 28:26 tells readers to go to God to be taught Discretion.
Jeremiah 10:12 informs us that God stretched out the heavens by His Discretion. The Earth was made by God's Power. The World was established by God's Wisdom.
Discretion is an essentially needed quality for Spiritual Growth.
"Lord Please Help Us Remove Fleshly Wisdom And Cultivate Your Discretion With In Our Selves".
Proverbs 5:2 advises readers that Discretion can be cultivated by verbally speaking God's Word.
May we regularly speak God's Word in all our affairs (Matthew 22:37-40).
Remember: God spoke His creation into existence. We too can speak Discretion into our lives.
The Strange (UnGodly) Woman
Pro 5:3 For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
We've learned from our previous Proverbs chapters that this woman isnot just a harlot. This woman is "Strange" because she offers another "gospel" than the one God has given. This woman is like "Babylon" the Great Harlot (Leviticus 10:1; Numbers 3:4; Numbers 26:61; Revelation 17:1-17).
Proverb 5:3 focuses on this Harlot's "lips" and "mouth".
Rebellious Religion attempts to be the Word Of God. However the Word Of God is Jesus Christ NOT Religious Doctrines (John 1:1; John 14:5-7; John 17:17; Matthew 16:12).
The Bible words "Honey" and "Oil" symbolize God's Holy Word and the Holy Spirit (Oil) that is needed to understand God's Holy Word (Matthew 25:1-12; John 14:26; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
Pro 5:4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
The Two Edged Sword Is Jesus Christ (Revelation 2:12).
The Bible's "Bitter" and "Wormwood" describe God's disloyal Bride who has been unfaithful (Numbers 5:11-31; Revelation 8:11).
The END is the Coming Again Great Tribulation Of Jesus when He finally Burns This Great Whore Away (Revelation 17:1-17; Matthew 24:3-22; Daniel 11:40-44; Daniel 12:1-13; Daniel 9:27).
Pro 5:5 Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
The Bible's "feet" prophetically point to God's Priest's Class (Revelation 1:14-20; John 13:1-13; Isaiah 66:1).
The Bible's "Steps" prophetically point to these Priestly foot (steps) and Solomon's Temple (porch) (Daniel 11:40-44).
Pro 5:6 Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.
Any of God's servants who are Spiritual Harlots will not be known (married) to God (Matthew 25:1-12; Matthew 7:13-29; Genesis 4:25-26; Matthew 25:1-12).
God Commands His Servants Not To Mix With Religous Harlots
Pro 5:7 Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
God commands His servants to be intently obedient and diligent to His Word (Hebrews 11:5-6).
Religious Harlots Have No Business Near Us Or Our Residence
Pro 5:8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
The Apostle John gives Christians the same commands: Christians are to have no part whatsoever with Religious Harlots. We are not to associate with them (Revelation 18:1-4; Deuteronomy 8:1-20; Deuteronomy 7:1-20; John 17:6-17).
Pro 5:9 Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
God is to be honored (Judges 9:9; 1 Sameul 2:30; Psalm 104:1; Proverbs 25:2; John 5:44).
Religious Harlots are "Cruel (uncaring)". Such ones steal God's Honor for themselves (Matthew 25:1-39; Revelation 17:1-17).
Pro 5:10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;
While obeying God brings personal wealth obeying Religious Harlots removes personal wealth (Genesis 34:29; Deuteronomy 8:17-18; 1 Samuel 2:32; 2 Kings 15:20; 2 Chronicles 1:12).
The Last Is The End Which Is God's Judgment
Pro 5:11 And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
The "Last" is the "End" Which is God Coming In Judgment. Any one who was deceived by Religious Harlots will still be Judged Adversely by God (Matthew 15:14; John 6:54-63; Daniel 11:40-44; Matthew 24:3; 15-22; Revelation 17:10-17; Daniel 9:27; Matthew 25:1-12; Matthew 7:13-29).
Pro 5:12 And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; Pro 5:13 And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! Pro 5:14 I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
The Great Tribulation Will Force God's Disobedient Servants To Repent. It Will Be As Blood Beginning Trodded Out Of A Wine Press (Revelation 14:1-20; Luke 21:20-36; Matthew 23:37-39).
Pro 5:15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. Pro 5:16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. Pro 5:17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee. Pro 5:18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
We've already learned that this "Stranger" represents
Christians must associate and worship with those who obey the Bible's God (John 15:10-15).
Christians Must Avoid Spiritual And Relationship Infidelity
Pro 5:19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. Pro 5:20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
Christians Must Passionately Love The Word Of God And Their Human Spouses If Applicable (John 4:24; John 4:1-23).
Pro 5:21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings. Pro 5:22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. Pro 5:23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray
God is aware of everything that we think or do.
Surely we will reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7-8).
