How Should We Pray

Jesus gives us a way that we ought to pray in Matthew 6:5-13. He gives us a model prayer that means so much than just repeating and learning it. It is a means of living a relationship with the Father.

In Luke 11:2-4 Jesus was asked by his Disciples after his own prayer time to teach them how to pray. He taught them saying when ye pray, say, Our Father which are in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done as it is in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily brad, and forgive us our sins; for we also forgive everyone that is indebted to us; and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. We must be taught as a child to pray but as we grow in Christ our prayer life should also grow.

Matthew described Jesus teaching method of prayer that we refer to as the model prayer in 6:9-13 after this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever, Amen. Jesus before then told us how to come before God to pray. The Power Of Prayer

Jesus said when we pray; pray to God the Father, give reverence and honor to Him. We should pray daily, Luke 18:1 says men should always pray and not faint. Itís not important that anyone see you praying or know you are praying. We donít pray to be seen of men. Instead enter into the prayer closet of our hearts and mind. Look within ourselves and make sure we are virtuous, clean. Shut the door, shut out the noise. Itís not in how many words we say but eh sincere belief that you have what you ask for.

Entering the prayer closet mean we pray from our heart. Pray forgiveness of sin and forgiving others. Pray that we enter not into temptation. Seek to pray Godís Will; pray and ask God what His Will is and believe; have faith that moves God to action. If we believe the first time we pray, donít keep asking faithlessly but thank God continuously until what we are believe Him for; manifest itself in our lives. We can ask amiss! Keep thanking for hearing and answering prayer. Then we have the prayer of thanks for the manifestation.

Not only should we watch and pray but we should also fast. Jesus still teaching in Matthew 6:16-18 said we should anoint our head and wash it. Jesus said it like this; ďdonít be hypocriticalĒ even in our fasting. Donít make others think we are so holy and doing so much for God. Then we are doing God, but not living godly. No one need to know we are fasting. When we do right, fast right, and pray right we have joy.

A man will do with a woman what he wants but yet be married to another. This puts a sad countenance on the face of the other woman and wife, so God when we treat him like that. God wants us to be true to Him; he wants commitment of the God kind. We are told by Paul in I Corinthians 7:5 defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency. We cannot fast without the permission of our spouses for a time. God wants us to fast in joy with no one knowing accept us and them. This is the only time someone else should know we are fasting.

When we seek for righteousness we will find what is right. Righteousness is a treasure from heaven. We should pray for heaven on earth. Romans 14:17 says that the kingdom of heaven is not meat and drink but joy, peace, and righteousness in the Holy Ghost. Therefore when we pray we should look for these treasures; joy, peace, and righteousness. Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 to seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these other things will be added to us. Treasure on earth; what are we seeking when we fast and pray? What do we put in our heart to desire? Our treasure is in heaven, not on the earth.

We present ourselves; our mind, body, soul, heart, and spirit to God where He is pleased. Nobody throughout our lives can take this treasure from us. God said for us to come to Him, all that labor and are heavy laden and He will give us rest. When we give alms, pray, fast and seek God right we can receive of Godís gifts naturally and spiritually. We labor in prayer for eternal life and everlasting peace.

We should ask for this heavenly treasure. Whatever we ask in Jesus Name God will give to us; so ask God for peace and joy. Ask Him to help us live a righteous life. Pray that sin die in the world for the wages of sin ids death, but the gift of God is eternal life. This is the treasure we should labor in prayer for.

We all have the gift given us; Jesus. We all have gifts given by God but the gifts and callings of God is without repentance. The sinner has gifts that work for them. The only thing is they seek to use them where they do not work. We are given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. God according to His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness.

Let us continue to pray and fast, let us remember to keep God first in all things. Keep our alms godly. Forsake man and choose God today! Choose the treasure of heaven; Jesus to be ours today! Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts. Call upon the Lord, he will in no way turn ur away. He is near us right now. Return to the Lord and He will have mercy upon us and He will pardon our sins.

We want that happiness that can only come from God. We must take the mind of Christ and reach God for our ways are not his ways; nor is our thoughts his thoughts. We must condescend down, become humble in prayer and submit all to God. Be a follower of Christ; receive a godly reward.
