Deuteronomy, chapter 28, is a written account of what Moses told his people concerning God's blessings and judgment. Even though it was not written to America there are striking parallels to what this nation is experiencing today. The chapter is divided into two sections: blessings resulting from obedience (verses 1-14), and curses resulting from turning away from God (verses 15-68).
Let's first look at the blessings of obedience and we will then see how the tide has shifted. In the first part of this chapter we see that God's blessings will be upon offspring, agricultural production, and personal labor (4-5). Enemies rising up against the people will be defeated (7). "The Lord will command the blessing upon you...in all that you put your hand to...(8). Going on down to verses 9-14 several more blessings are listed: abundance of prosperity, giving rain to the land in its season, lending to many nations, and being the head and above all, not the tail.
"But," it says in verse 15, "it shall come about, if you will not obey the Lord your God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes with which I charge you today, that all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you." Verse 20 warns,"The Lord will send upon you curses, confusion, and rebuke in all you undertake to do..." Is not that exactly what is happening more and more today in American politics and foreign policy? Plus, look at all the confusion and turmoil in Washington D.C..
We are also being overtaken by pestilence and consumption, which is another name for consumerism. Pestilence refers to contagious and epidemic diseases.
Verse 24 gives a very clear description of drought. "The Lord will make the rain of your land powder and dust..." Drought and dried up crops have become a reality for too many farmers. (This does not imply that the individual farmers have turned from God.)
This nation is not winning wars like we used to. This is expressed in verse 25, where it says "you will be defeated before your enemies..."
Terminal illness, madness, bewilderment of heart, and physical oppression are listed in verses 27-29. Depression and emotional illness are at an all time high.
Moving down to verses 43-44 we read, "The alien who is among you shall rise above you higher and higher, but you shall go down lower and lower. He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail." China is an alien nation that is lending us money.
There is a warning given in veses 49-50. "The Lord will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as the eagle swoops down, a nation whose language you shall not understand, a nation of fierce countenance who shall have no regard for the old, nor show favor to the young." Doesn't this sound a lot like being overcome by Islam?
More diseases and chronic illnesses are mentioned in verse 59.
You may not agree with all of my applications, but I think you would agree that there is a lot of parallel with what America is experiencing. God is lifting His hand of blessing off of this great nation. How can people continue to sing, "GOD BLESS AMERICA" when...
innocent babies, who are creations of God, are being aborted?
our culture is worshipping other gods of money, consumerism, music, movies, and technology?
people are trying to take down the symbols of truth, like the cross, the Ten Commandments, the Bible, and Jesus?
the spiritual foundation that our nation's forefathers established is being ignored?
Thank God for His grace upon America, but how much longer will He be patient with this land?
You are right that the Judgement/punishment of God is about to fall upon the world. Not just the USA, all the Western nations, but most severely onto those who commence their attack on Israel, as per Psalm 83.
