Sometimes when I happen to catch another ridiculous ad on TV (not saying that all ads are) I ask myself, "What exactly are they celebrating?" Is it really a brand of beer or a car? Even recent New Year's celebrations raised the same puzzlement. Maybe I've asked that question enough that it merited an answer, I don't know, but an answer seems to have come. There are only two basic kinds of celebrations, in fact. One kind celebrates that that there was a resurrection (that of Jesus Christ) and that therefore there will be a further resurrection and, for many, a reunion with loved ones. The other kind celebrates that there was no resurrection of Jesus Christ and there will be no resurrection to an afterlife, so eat, drink and be merry while you can, for one day we die and return to nothingness. Both cannot be based in truth or actual fact, so one celebration will be overturned and overruled. If it's the former that's turned on its head, those celebrating won't ever even know they were misinformed and misled. If it's the latter, those misinformed won't ever be able to forget that they were misled. So for many like me it's almost a no-brainer in which camp they want to reside.
