So long Summer

So Long Summer….
Buckets and spades (do we still use them?) are put away for the year and that holiday in the sun which was so relaxing is just a memory.

Vance Havner, a veteran American preacher, commenting on our recent passage from Luke 9 said, “Come apart and rest a while or you’ll simply come apart.” Wise words indeed. But as always, the resting must give way to activity, and with August all but over, our minds are turning to school uniforms, homeworks and the endless running around - not to forget the Lord’s work and the extension of His kingdom. So here’s a question to ponder as we consider how best to avoid a breakdown - What are my priorities?

A long time ago a missionary was lying ill after having burnt himself out. He had a visit from a senior missionary which turned his life around. He left him with one phrase: “Don’t do the urgent, do the important.”

To help us understand what is important, look at what Jesus prioritised - prayer. Although He was mega-busy He always made a point of drawing strength from the Father.

If you find yourself dreading the oncoming period of “busyness” remember you need the refreshing power of God’s peace - go to the fountain and drink!
