To wear one's heart upon a sleeve
Foolish it always seemed to me
Cold and aloof, by some perceived
Ghoulish, by others, deemed to be
Shrouded in a protective layer
Frangible, fragments would assert
That shattered shards, entombed once were
A fleshly, warm and beating heart
Searching, for context and release
Fearful, I reached into my soul
Perused each wretched, ragged piece
Trying to reconstruct the whole
A heart exposed to every threat
Raw and defenseless, stands alone
Deep is my sorrow and regret
Better a heart, encased in stone!
This page, my ear, this ink my blood
The vein from which my heart can bleed
For humans neither care, nor love
Another broken heart, in need
Last night, family dynamics dictated that it was best for me to go somewhere I hadn't intended going. I am thankful that I did and knew from the outset that I was meant to be there. I don't recall ever reading this Psalm. Perhaps I did and the words just glossed over me, which has often been the case. I thought I'd share it here, should another despairing person stumble upon this offering.
I cried unto the Lord with my voice; with my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication.
I poured out my complaint before him; I shewed before him my trouble.
When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path. In the way wherein I walked have they privily laid a snare for me.
I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.
I cried unto thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.
Attend unto my cry; for I am brought very low: deliver me from my persecutors; for they are stronger than I.
Bring my soul out of prison, that I may praise thy name: the righteous shall compass me about; for thou shalt deal bountifully with me.
