THE CHRISTMAS LAMB OF GOD
Freelance writer Lupie Riley 12/6/13
As the age-old biblical story goes "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth" it identifies Him as the author of all living things. It was good and the Lord was happy with his handiwork but sadly, the perfect humans he created with a free will rebelled against him and disobeyed his instructions. There were consequences to this rebellion. Sin and death entered the world picture. "When Adam sinned, sin entered the entire human race. His sin spread death throughout the world, so everything began to grow old and die, for all sinned. Rom. 5:12” Next on the world stage came the redeemer, "the Lamb of God", the incarnation of God Himself. "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Look! There is the Lamb of God who takes away the world's sin! John 1:29." "Since we, God's children are human beings--made of flesh and blood--he became flesh and blood too by being born in human form; for only as a human being could he die and in dying break the power of the devil that had the power of death. Only in that way could he deliver those who through fear of death have been living all their lives as slaves to constant dread Heb. 2:14-15."
In past history, God's people would offer unblemished sacrificial lambs on the altar as a prerequisite to the real Lamb that was to come. Jesus, "the Lamb of God" was offered up as the ultimate sacrifice for all the sins Satan could invent. Through His resurrection Jesus broke that power of physical and spiritual death the devil had over the worlds people. "For God was in Christ, restoring the world to himself, no longer counting men's sins against them but blotting them out II Cor 5:19"
Jesus humble beginning as an infant lying in a manger was probably wrapped in a cloth that was used by Shepherds to wipe down the sheep used in the temple rituals. As an adult at the age of 33 Jesus became the one time sacrifice for sin. "This so-called "foolish" plan of God is far wiser than the wisest plan of the wisest man, and God in his weakness--Christ dying on the cross--is far stronger than any man. 30. "For it is from God alone that you have your life through Christ Jesus. He showed us God's plan of salvation; he was the one who made us acceptable to God; he made us pure and holy and gave himself to purchase our salvation I Cor. 1:25-30."
As the Good Shepherd he knows us by our name and lays down his life for us, his sheep. As the Lamb of God, without blemish (sinless) He became the sacrifice that takes away all sin from those who through faith accept him into their life. "Look! I have been standing at the door and I am constantly knocking. If anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in and fellowship with him and he with me Rev. 3:20." This baby that was born on that cold, Christmas Eve is more then just any newborn....He was and is the Lamb of God that takes away all sin, the Savior and redeemer of our souls. He offers this gift of salvation to everyone who will receive Him. "But to all who received him, he gave the right to become children of God. All they needed to do was to trust him to save them. All those who believe this are re-born--not a physical rebirth resulting from human passion or plan--but from the will of God John 1:12-13. This CHRISTmas season will you receive this precious gift of forgiveness in the person of Jesus? Maranatha
