“If the foundation be destroyed , what can the righteous do?”
Home is a wonderful institution in the hand of God, yet consistently attacked by various forces. Diver’s tools and strategies are used by the enemy to destroy, distract, and distress this wonderful institution. Many homes, since the beginning have been sacrificed on the altar of sin, poverty, divorce, separation, ignorance, war, wickedness and host of many adverse situation s. “Come with me and eat bread, ( 1 king 13:5)” should have been consistent request of most homes where spiritual, physical, emotional hunger are satisfied . But it is unfortunate that some home may be seriously famished of all these.
In some homes, the good man or virtuous woman is missing. They have probably gone to a faraway journey and probably proposing an unrealistic date to come back. The home is expected to be a standard school where God is expected to be known better as categorically stated by Apostle Paul, more so , where God is given less or no consideration in in the circular school of most societies
Many of the forces militating against the peace and hope of the homes are not actually new. They are potent now as in the past and in subsequent generation of homes may still be potent. The fact that marriage patterns or season are susceptible to changes and many factors determine our attitudes and responses do activate and reactivate some forces within the home which if not put into proper check may lead home to a catastrophes.
There are internal and external forces capable of disorganising the peace status of a home. Individual attitude and habit, the degree of knowledge about God and fellowship with God, the level of acceptance of the word of God to control and rule the home and many others, sincerity and readiness to work the home are common internal factors in the home while social affliction , culture, friendships, relatives, economic situation , wars, accidents are external factors that may affect the home. However, there is provision to handle all the factors if he will be invited
In some cases , the homes are like the saying in Lamentation 1: 20 “…….at home there is death”. When last did the father search for lost treasures, children and such is brought back home (Luke 2:30-52, 15:6).
The weakness of any home may not be unconnected with the process that gave birth to that marriage. Marriage is being approached with a lot of wrong concept s, believes and principles but “A good marriage is a matter of active wisdom, and God’s help and faithfulness and sincerity and not of luck”. The success of a home is a lot of work. However, many of these marriages irrespective of how they are established are seriously been threatened by divorce, temporary or permanent separation, or co-habitation principle . Findings revealed that about 50% marriages solemnized today have tendency to end in divorce or permanent separation. The numbers of single mothers are seriously in the increase. Fathers are farther from most homes for whatever ”legitimate ” and some unexplainable reasons, leaving the children to their mother care only. There are a lot of mothers acting like a murderer. Marriages and homes are seriously been attacked by the same method employed by the enemy in Genesis 3:1-7, driving husband and wife apart and from the basic principle and concept of building our home as recommended.
While some confronted the Lord Jesus about the issue of divorce, he said in the beginning it was not so. The hope for our nation and churches is dependent on our home and dependent on the understanding and practices of keeping the home as it is, in the beginning.
The fundamental problem in the home is neglecting, forgetting l or complete ignorance of what is written in the manufacturing manual. Everything must be traced back to God’s concept , purpose, principle and proposal of home.
“He who made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said for this cause shall a man leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife and they twain shall be one flesh”. The hope of our homes resides in the foundational instructions. When God brought Adam and Eve together, Adam called his Eve ‘Woman’, this equivalent to the change of a woman identity at the second chapter of Genesis 2:18-24 as commonly practiced in the marriage ceremonies in the court of law and churches.
In the beginning, some basic critical control concepts were established with this wonderful institution- called marriage. Deviation from these has been major critical crisis points in marriage. These critical control concepts are:
a. Choice making
b. Concept of oneness( one flesh)
c. Commandment( rules and regulation )
Going back to the Scripture is the major hope we have.
