There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him." In this discussion with Nicodemus in John 3:19-21, Jesus said to him:
19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God." NKJV
Although this discussion began from Nicodemusí interest in obtaining eternal life, it developed into a discussion about manís love of darkness because of their evil deeds. Jesusí point was that those who are practicing evil do not want the exposure of light to reveal their deceitful activities. On the other hand, those who have nothing to hide will willingly submit to the exposure of light.
This principle is readily apparent in our declining society in which crime is on the increase. Criminals love darkness, or the ability to carry out their escapades with minimal expectation of exposure of their illegal deeds. Most home robberies take place under cover of darkness or during a time when the expectation of discovery is minimal. Bank robberies are conducted in a manner to bring minimal attention to or exposure and identity of the robbers. Other thefts are conducted in a similar manner, so that the thieves are at minimal risk.
So-called white collar crimes are also conducted in a similar manner. These crimes are conducted at such a level that most of their victims are not even immediately aware that they have been victimized. Usually there is a period of time between the time of the actual crime and the realization of what has occurred, giving the criminals time to cover the trail of their crimes and prepare their defenses if their crimes are discovered.
There has been a recent proliferation of crimes committed using the telephone as a means of gaining the confidence of victims. Most of this activity is aimed at senior citizens, who are assumed to have limited capacity for recognizing a telephone scam. These thefts are usually carried out by gaining the confidence of victims under pretense of a legitimate activity and thereby using this as a means of gaining access to their funds.
And then there are the internet criminals. These criminals take undercover activities to a new level. Finding extraordinary means of camouflage afforded them by the nature of internet transactions, these criminals hide their identities and locations while victimizing others by swindling them out of their funds. This is usually done by using the internet to secretly transfer funds from the accounts of the victims.
The principle of undercover activities does not only apply to individuals, but it also applies to the activities and agendas of governments. Those who are alert to events in America know that America has, more recently than before, entered into an agenda of undercover activities that are at best questionable, and more likely deceitful, due to the corrupt nature of what is attempted to be hidden from the citizens. The recent exposure of some of these secret activities has brought about much anger and retaliation by our government against those who have attempted to bring these activities to the attention of the citizenry. The governmental backlash is evidence of the extent of the problem and their determination to keep any knowledge of this activity from the public. And then, of course, there are their attempts to justify those activities that could not otherwise be denied, usually by declaring that they are necessary in order to safeguard against terrorist activities.
Despite their attempts at explanations and justifications, this activity has served to create more distrust of our government and its agendas. The general feeling seems to be that legitimate activities by a government by and for the people should be conducted in a manner to maintain the trust of the people, and that cannot occur when such activities are done in absolute secrecy.
While itís not expected that all the details of government activities should be exposed, many of those recently brought to light, such as the spying on American citizens, should have been revealed beforehand along with the necessity for them. This revelation could have been made in a manner as to not require the details, but an explanation of the circumstances that required that such actions be taken, such as those involving the intrusion into areas believed by citizens to be private. This revelation could have and should have resulted in an open discussion regarding the constitutional legality for the actions.
What has resulted though is an intensified distrust of the activities of our government. Many feel that our government is conducting far too many of its activities in secrecy. Whereas we should expect that much of what is occurring should be exposed by the press, under this administration our press has been virtually silenced regarding those activities that are intentionally being concealed.
The primary problem is that under the veil of darkness our government is attempting to secretly take away all control of governmental affairs from the citizens by thwarting what were the intentions of our Constitution to maintain the power of government by the people. Whereas our Constitution grants the power of government to the people, this power or authority is being usurped under the veil of darkness. Unless the people can raise up a body of legislative members who are in favor of honoring our Constitution, rather than transferring those powers to the President and the Legislature, America as we have know it is doomed to be transferred into a Socialist or Communist Society, wherein all power is given to the leaders and the rest of the populace is relegated to servants without any reasonable freedoms.
The larger problem that has created this situation is that, although America has in the past flourished beyond any other nation in history, it has regressed to the point that it is now floundering under a veil of spiritual darkness brought on by its willing departure from the principles that made it great.
Had the church performed its concerted role in providing the needed backlash against the regression from Godís Laws, America would have been unable to have regressed to this extent. In fact, had Christians only been willing to use Scripture as a basis for voting for candidates for office, including the office of President, America would be in a totally different condition relating to the economy and our freedoms, as well as our outlook for the future. As it stands now, Americaís future is bleak, as all indications are that secretly our governmentís plans include changing America into a pure Socialist State, in which the freedoms of the citizenry will be only a memory.
Freedom begins with unrestricted access to the truth.
