The Culture War

Without a doubt, America is deeply engaged, or is actually engrossed, in a culture war. Although it seems the war being waged is primarily over political issues, actually the roots are much deeper, as the political issues that seem to be causing the turmoil are only symptoms of a much deeper problem. As the attention is being focused largely on political issues, the turmoil is being created and fed by a widening difference in values by those within our country.

America has throughout its history experienced periods of deep division. While those divisions were often political in nature, they could usually be explained as a difference in goals and objectives of those in power. But despite those differences, there was still a commitment by most to relish and honor Godís Laws, which were the basis for many of the laws within our Constitution. In other words, there was a consensus regarding the need to maintain stability based on the truth contained in Godís Word and the integrity that Godís Word dictated. Most felt this was the basis for the continued success and advancement of our country.

But our current instability is different. This time the source of our instability is much more the manifestation of a spiritual war that is greatly influencing the system of values of those in power. Therefore, it is those in power who are contributing greatly to the separation of values in our country.

While there are many factions in the populace, some liberal and some conservative, these differences have existed throughout our history. In the past these differences have been somewhat neutralized to a large extent by those in power who have persisted in holding to certain standards and maintaining the course of the country somewhat in adherence with Godís Laws. But in recent years, especially in the most recent period, there has been a rush toward dispensing with any influences that have been established in accordance with and in compliance with Godís Laws. Simply put, there is a concerted effort to dispense with any Godly influences, especially those that represent a belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Our government has reached the point that it is willing to accept any other forms of religion, up to and including religion based on the Quran, or Muslim law, but is making every effort to dispense with any form of religious activity based on belief in Jesus Christ. This is being manifested in our schools, our halls of justice, and even our military establishments, where chaplains are being systematically forced away from using the Holy Scripture as a basis for their ministries.

All of this effort, supported and even advanced by our government, has resulted in a great separation of cultural beliefs. While there are finer breakdowns for these cultures, the primary breakdowns are clear.

Christian Culture

The Christian Culture is based on the Biblical principles found in Godís Word. Although there are different denominations that use Godís Word as a basis, there is much consensus among these denominations that have resulted largely in agreement to honor and teach the principles found therein. One Scripture that describes the principles of Christianity is found in Galatians 5:19-25:

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

24 And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. NKJV

These principles have been taught and used as a basis for maintaining a close relationship with Christ and have served to bind together His followers in a consistent relationship, although not always in completely agreement by denomination regarding some specific verses found in His Word. Nevertheless, the Christian community has largely agreed on the principles of integrity, character and consistency.

Anti-Christian Culture

The Anti-Christian Culture has emerged as a force against and a system of rejection of Biblical Principles. Beginning in the liberal community, it has risen into and taken strong root in the leaders of our government. As a result, there is a united agenda toward eliminating the powers that are within the Christian community and that are emanating from the pulpits of the Christian churches. The obvious intent is to destroy the effects of the Christian movement throughout our country and thereby bring about and establish a society completely devoid of all Christian influences. The goal is to eliminate the use of Godís Word as a standard or reference point in our society. Evidence of this are the efforts and successes already in effect, such as:

1. Taking the prayer out of our schools.
2. Taking the 10 Commandments off our public buildings.
3. Moving toward takingĒIn God We TrustĒ off our currency.
4. Attempting to change the meaning of murder as it applies to abortion.
5. Attempting to normalize and mainstream the perversion of homosexuality, when the Bible plainly states that it is an abomination.
6. Attempting to redefine the meaning of truth to mean whatever the majority of people believe.
7. Creating an increasing acceptance of Muslim culture, in spite of its overall goal of establishing Sharia Law throughout America. This Sharia Law includes dispensing with all forms of Christian worship.

Those who support the Anti-Christian culture need to understand and accept the definition of their movement, as found in I Samuel 15:23:

23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. NKJV

Unfortunately, there are many Christians who, out of loyalty to their political party, are actually in support of this Anti-Christian Culture. Whatever their motives, they should realize that itís extremely dangerous for a Christian to be on the wrong side of a spiritual war Ė the side opposite to Godís Word. Quoting one well-known activist, ďNo political party deserves your blind loyalty.Ē

Corruption Culture

The Corruption Culture takes the Anti-Christian culture to an extreme level. This movement is actually being led by example by many of those who have been elected as our government leaders. This corruption is rampant in our government and is the major cause of the bickering and the inability of those in power to come to agreements that would serve to sustain our form of government. When the principle objective of each official is to gain personal power or to gain power for their particular political party, this becomes the motivation for service based on lies and deceit, which are the cover-up for their corrupt practices.

Since itís important that the corruptive practices are kept hidden from the voters, those in power have forced the media to become complicit by requiring them to exclude any news that would assist in revealing the rampant corruption that has become the normal. This is further apparent by the agitation that occurs by officials whenever there are any leaks of information that are detrimental to the continued culture of corruption within our government. Attempting to convince the voters that the issue is one of national security, they unite in their attempts to capture and prosecute any of those who are bold enough to expose what is nothing less than rampant corruption.

Following the lead of our leaders in our government, corruption elsewhere is becoming rampant. Not only are our local governments becoming increasingly corrupt, but it is becoming a problem of epidemic proportions throughout our country, as evidenced by the dramatic increases in scams, extortions, thefts, robberies, and seemingly whatever it takes to take from others what is rightfully their own hard-earned property. The mottos seem to be, ďWhatever is yours, is mine if I can take it,Ē and, ďItís only wrong if I get caught.Ē

But despite the seeming successes of the Corruption Culture, God will have the Last Word.
